Nope, my 1st squad leader pooh-poohed them in combat (multiple tours in VN), didn't have anything good to say about the M-16 either... but carried one... encouraged me to carry the Thompson... And then I heard one fired from a sixgun...
But, here's a fun fact for ya... the very first End of Trail cowboy action match held in Coto de Caza in Southern California was won by a guy shooting a Blackhawk in .30 Carbine. And they were promptly banned.

Re: Any love for the.30 Carbine?
I have a like new GI, 30 caliber carbine with all of the accesories to which I added a picatunny rail in place of the upper handguard and a red dot sight.
It has functioned perfectly for me and I have been using Hornady, Critical Defence ammo and my own hand loads.
It is a most handy carbine right up there with the lever action carbines of the past and present.

Well, that didn't work out very well, I don't know how to flip the picture right side up so you'll have to flip your phone. Ha, ha.

For those of you that reload the .30 Carbine and have a Dillon press and trimmer, back in 2008 I bought a short toolhead from CH4D for my XL650 press as well as their .30 Carbine trim die for my Dillon Trimmer. (It fits on my current XL750 just fine too.)
They stopped making the short toolhead in 2017 when Dillon started making theirs (p/n 62112 for a 650/750 and p/n 62231 for the 550C) but they still make the .30 Carbine trim die (p/n 30M-1Car). It's currently priced at $88.00 on their website.
Yes, it's set up so that you add the lock nut on the underside of the toolhead so it doesn't block the hole to allow the chips and shavings to be sucked up. I've used it to trim roughly 3,800 pieces of .30 Carbine brass and it works as well as all my other trim dies.

I think I have four or five sets of RCBS carbine dies both carbide and non carbide . Everytime someone brings them in the shop to sell cheap I buy them . And to be honest I’ve not tried loading any Carbine ammo . Did deprime and resize a couple hundred cases but that’s the extent of it .COSteve wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 7:51 am For those of you that reload the .30 Carbine and have a Dillon press and trimmer, back in 2008 I bought a short toolhead from CH4D for my XL650 press as well as their .30 Carbine trim die for my Dillon Trimmer. I have one but I just can't find much use for it. It's still a cool little rifle.
