speaking of 1911s
In case any one wants one Sarco has a Rock Island 45 for $366. Looks like all of their RI 1911S are on sale.
https://www.sarcoinc.com/rock-island-gi ... ded-45acp/
any interest here abouts? i can't buy it because threaded barrels are illegal to buy in wawalandia. maybe i could buy it without a barrel, i have a spare. idk AND I think I can't buy the 15 round 45 ACP magazines either.
it's like, you know, pro criminal behavior communism

Re: speaking of 1911s
.
My son has a regular 45 ACP 1911 from Rock Island.
Works well and great gun.
I actually Bubba’d it up when new trying to polish the feed ramp, and they repaired it for free within a few day turnaround.
I have a double-stack 1911 version from Rock Island that I like too; I use it on a MechTech ‘upper’ for a 20-round 45 ACP carbine, since I already have a Para Ordnance P-14 and both take the same 14 round (regular) and 20 round (extended) magazines. The 20 round ones aren’t even very long, being double stack.
http://levergunscommunity.org/viewtopic ... aa#p939440
Then I got the 9mm version Rock Island 1911, that is also double-stack, AND comes with a 22 TCM barrel as well (same mags as 9mm but you swap barrel and spring). It is nice (22 version is LOUD), and slide very easy to rack for instructing new shooters.
So we do like the RI’s in our family.
I’d like to try the 22 WMR (rimfire) version too.

Re: speaking of 1911s
On the other hand I am interested in the carbine conversion of the 1911, 16" barrel and wood stock, all patterned after original equipment . . .
if it worked for our grampas, it will work for me. maybe the lightest 45 carbine. and about $800 cheaper than the Ruger LC, which is what i would buy if i were $800 richer. now if i can find some 15 round magazines in a locker somewhere - - -

Griz,
Have you ever fired one of those contraptions?
I’ve been curious as to how they might function.

Re: speaking of 1911s
I haven't. But it's maybe the lightest thing around, and the cheapest, and someone who has one says they are accurate out to fifty yards. He also reported a 200 fps velocity increase over a 5" barrel. So a +P load should bump up closer to 45 super ballistics, that's a win.Scott Tschirhart wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 1:08 pm Griz,

The thing that worries me is that one maker uses a plastic spring housing for the stock adapter. Don't know if I'd want to meet brer bear with that setup. But what a great deer gun, if they're staying out of pistol range. It might hold its own alongside an SAA.
Someone said that it's a good idea to get a new bushing and fit it for that barrel and keep them together.
so far i haven't found a video of someone shooting it - - -
Re: speaking of 1911s
I've owned and worked on a number of Rock Island 1911's and they're not bad pistols. I did have a new one, several years ago, with a short-chambered barrel, but they sent me a new one PDQ. Tisas is cutting deep into RIA's market, at the moment.

Re: speaking of 1911s
I have four of the Tisas/ SDS and not a bum in the lot. Just picked up a 10mm, but haven't shot it yet.
I'll get a range report together for all four when I have a minute to stop and relax a bit. Who knows when that will be.

I bought this one a few years ago used for $250 and it will outshoot my Old Colt Gold Cup with Winchester 230 FP.

Good looking pistol.
that's an interesting bullet profile. It's the one I use in the .380 Auto. In a water penetration test it comes to rest in second jug, next to the 9mm gold dots.

Re: speaking of 1911s
Went shooting this morning (instead of lunch; an excellent trade off) with Y2K (who is working west coast hours right now). Tried out a Rugged "Obsidian 45" with my Tisas 1911 Carry. Purchased a threaded barrel for it after the approval for the suppressor came in. First time shooting it with that barrel and it worked flawlessly. Darn accurate too!
Where are threaded barrels illegal?

The Rugged Obsidian .45 Suppressor works great on my .45 Sub-gun, .44 Mag Lever action, and AR .350 Legend, and other pistols.

I've always thought one of these would be a dandy little carbine. https://mechtechsys.com/ If im not mistaken you can make them look bit more traditional, which is what I prefer.
