Finally

Post by GunnyMack »

A chance to get to the bunker!
With the litter of puppies last summer I didn't get to go chootin' last summer.
So today I finally had a free day to go shoot some international trap, my passion!
I realized today that I've been a ' bunker -bum ' for 40 years!
Anyhow, I put my favorite Italian scattergun together and by gum I broke the first target out! Proceeded to hit another 18. Ok not too bad for a 2 season layoff.
Second round a 23 appeared by my name on the score sheet. Then a 21. The ol dog can still hunt!
For those who aren't aware of international trap, it's what is shot in the Olympics. A bunker consists of 15 trap machines. Wider angles(up to 45° L or R and everything in-between) and targets from 1.5m -4m high at 10m . Speeds can be upwards of 100mph-ish to make distance , 76m +/- 1m to be legal. No speed limit for ammo but only 24grams of shot(13/16 oz)

When I was Young Winchester Corporation had a factory sponsored Shooting Center about 20 miles from Here. They had it all including international Trap and international skeet. I bought a Remington 3200 Skeet gun in '76 and was totally nuts for several years. I shot regular skeet gun down for quite a while and did O.K. . One of the older shooters said come with Me, try international. My first round I broke 21 and the second 20. After that regular skeet was like slow motion. . That Club is long gone and is now a paint ball place to shoot. .
Glad You were able to get out once again.!

Looks like an absolute ball, Will, and waaaaay beyond my poor wing-shooting skills. But it is having fun that matters!

45, that sounds exactly like what happens with the Olympic venues. Doesn't matter if summer or winter games- all left to rot.
It's been a pet peeve of mine for many years.
Each country/ continent develops a venue for both games, do the upkeep and continue to use them.
The Atlanta games put in 15 bunkers , within a few years they were back filled. LA, same thing. That's just 1 sport. Imagine each sport that needs special location, setups, infrastructure and cost to rebuild every 4 years.
I know some of the winter venues get used over and over as training centers.
Just irritating to me.
