Cowboy Action Shoot

Post by Griff »

Well, I can do the "well-equipped" Texas Ranger tomorrow at the cowboy action match! Think I should lobby for 15 pistol shots per stage...

Going to shoot the Paterson's in the match? That's pretty cool. I want to get myself a Paterson one of these days.

I can see how speed would be a challenge. The faster you shoot, the harder it is to see the target through the smoke. Are all three of your Patterson's running well? I thought you had mentioned having issues with one in another thread.

Yes, and no! One runs great and seldom has an issue, it's mate (same 2017 production year) is not as smooth, either during the cocking process or the firing. I don't feel it's clunkiness when I'm actually firing it, but as I go to half cock to cap and then let the hammer down between chambers, it feels like there's a 2nd & 3rd notch in there... Pull the trigger an' the hammer falls with plenty of speed tho'... so maybe it's just that slow manipulation. The 3rd is from 1979, and while it feels good, it's difficult to cap, the hammer slot thru the recoil shield is pretty high, and you have to angle the cap onto the nipple, then press it the rest of the way on. The 1851s are an absolute dream in comparison!
