Great ballad. Tom Russell says he wrote that song after visiting a cowboy museum in Alberta. In a display case were horsehair bridles and ropes "woven by Mexican horse thieves, Montana State Prison, 1910."

The most pitiful fellow since Job in the O.T. is said to be an important influence on Russell. Townes' parents had him chemically lobotomized for behaviour unbecoming of a van zandt.....

I had to look up braided horsehair. I knew my h.s. education lacked something . . . I could saddle and ride a horse, and ride bareback, but never learned a thing about tack. Thanks to the www I found this excellence > https://www.customhorsehairandwoolcreat ... shop/tack/ I am the last to know...

thanks for the music link
