Rare Pair of Winchester 1886 SRC

Post by Shrapnel »

I bought a Winchester 1886 SRC 45-70 several years ago and never really shot it much, so I decided to sell it. To get an idea of it’s value, I looked on the internet to see what the value would be for a fair price. While I was investigating the prices, I found another 1886 that was one serial number below mine. I contacted him to see if he would be interested in buying mine and have a consecutive serial numbered pair.

He wasn’t interested in doing that and suggested I buy his. After some time and deliberation, I found these guns had the same pedigree and history with the Hawaiin Civil Guard in the 1890’s. Both lettered the same with the same shipping back to Winchester for whatever reason.

I have researched the guns and have found somne real interesting history of these guns. They have been reunited after 130 years of separation…

fantastic! all 86 SRCs are rare but this is really over the top. the Hawaii Civil Guard pedigree and consecutive serial numbers. that is just unreal !!

congratulations.

Really cool. I'm often afraid to go into your posts because they are always drool inducing.

Wow. While spending money instead of getting, I'd say, financially, you made the right call. That is just incredible.

I just love stories like this. Its the classic "if these guns could talk" story. Long lost pals, reunited on a different front after so many years apart. It's rare that such a thing happens with these old guns. You can be proud of your hard work digging to get info on these and bringing at least one story from their past to light.

Excellent that you have a photo to go with it also.

That's great history, and cool that they're back together after over 130 years!
