Looking east this morning

Post by AmBraCol »

I was just bringing the dogs in from their morning constitutional when my wife called and told me "Grab your camera and head up the hill. El Nevado de Ruiz is glorious this morning!" The old snow capped volcano that erupted in '85 and wiped out a town of over 20,000 people is usually shrouded in clouds and not visible from here. But today it was. It's been rumbling for the past several years so we've not had a chance to go up and see the snow in person, but the snow cover this year is much lower than it's been in quite a while in spite of what the climate doomsayers are proclaiming. Anyway, here's a couple pics I grabbed of it. We're in the Norther Hemisphere so this is early spring here as well. You can see the heavy smoke plume it's putting out. I used two different cameras and am not sure why the difference in coloration, need to check and see what settings I was using on each. Top shot was taken with a Canon Rebel T3 that my daughter in law gave me last year. The other was taken with a Canon Rebel T1i I picked up cheap at a pawnshop in CA years ago.

Great photos, thanks for sharing. How far away is the volcano? You may want to check your lens filters.

Nice images Paul. Both cameras seem to have reached out very nicely. Having lived most of my life among the volcanoes of the Pacific Northwest, I give them great respect.

Thank you my friend! I have not been around active volcanoes since I lived in Japan. Fascinating but scary.

Thank you! It's roughly 26 miles from us, according one source. I'm not running filters on either lens, and haven't taken time to see what presets may be active in the cameras. They put some kind of Scene presets in, but I THINK I have them both set to Standard or Landscape, need to take time to look. I found the color difference interesting, considering they're both Canon cameras.

It's hard to get the proper chemicals anymore... must be the chinese sourced FG7 causing the issues.

Note to self - maybe re-reading info on Mount St. Helens isn't a good idea after all... We're 26 miles or so from Ruiz. The St Helens blast destroyed up to 19 miles from the mountain!

On the other hand, I don't believe in living in fear. Shucks, I ride a motorcycle around Coffee Country! When I contemplate the works of Creation around me, I'm in awe of The Designer. Beauty abounds, even in those things which potentially can cause harm. Some of my fondest memories from my youth have to do with seeing the raw power of Creation demonstrated in the amazing storms that set off the rainy season each year. Seeing the tall babaçu palms bending before the blast of wind was amazing, as was seeing branches as large as small trees ripped from huge mango trees and blown before the wind. "The calm assurance of a Christian holding four aces." is a Samuel Clemens quote I can identify with. 8)

.
It seems like the Earth is extremely influenced by the Sun which is incredible considering it is about 100 million miles away and we are so tiny that we get a minuscule fraction of it s radiation. Then on top of that there is a huge molten mass of liquid metal that forms the majority of our planet, while we ride on the relatively cool surface.

Yet the charlatans on the political left do the same things tribal shamans have done for centuries, which is to claim that they, and only they, have control over all of these forces, and if we just give them enough gold and virgins, they will keep us protected.

They say prostitution is the oldest profession, but I think politicians claiming that they can protect us from 'climate change' is even older, and far more insidious.

Yes they manage to take advantage of the egos of the insecure academic left to bolster them and get them on board. It's really pretty disgusting.

At any minute, a volcanic eruption, a solar flare, or a meteor, could completely overwhelm all of the asinine 'green energy' stuff the political left has been using to suck money out of the middle class and enrich themselves and their buddies, or at the least virtue signal to one another about how 'green' they are...
