Here I sit all broken hearted...

Post by GunnyMack »

On my way home from work, get to a stop light and push in the clutch and OH CARP!!
It wanted to keep going with the clutch pedal on the floor!
Of course it's one of the busiest highways in the state.
I have roadside assistance through my insurance company. They have a tow truck enroute from an hour away !

3 cops to stop rush hour traffic for less than 5 minutes to load it up.
Appears the hydraulic line from master cylinder burst by the puddle of fluid under the truck.

Been there, got the t-shirt. Was a '96 Chevy s-10 and the transmission had to be removed to replace the slave cylinder, unlike the Mopar slave which is mounted externally and much simpler to replace.

My car guy (friend, and patient patient) died a couple weeks ago driving his prize winning 1965 Mustang home from a car show. Now I don’t have anybody I can call and ask about the weird noises my car makes.
He knew cars the way I knew people and he was friendly and honest and just an awesome guy. I feel like at this point I need to go back to a horse and buggy or something because I don’t know anybody else I really trust to keep old cars running in a practical sense

Just ask here Doc — I’m sure others will chime in to help you out! It’s not the same, no (sorry for your loss), but you’re not alone…

You’re our “resident Doc” — and you have helped us before! Others (besides me, by the way!) will step up to help you,

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Our old Jeep, way back in the last couple decades of the 20th Century, was "old style" to the max. It was actually build by Ford, but marked Jeep. I replaced the clutch plate a couple times (kept ripping the center out of it) and the brake lines were redone repeatedly. Also, had the clutch cable break. Ran two fuel filters, one between the tank and the fuel pump and one between the fuel pump and the carb. And STILL had to stop and clean injectors occasionally. But I digress. We learned to drive it without the clutch cable (push, jump in, slip it into first, take off) but never without the clutch plate itself. Glad you got it picked up OK. Such experiences are not fun until sufficient time has passed!

Geesh! You guys seem to be cursed. I still daily drive my’68 Ford and off road my ‘82 CJ-8. And other than things I broke off road I haven’t had these types of failures.

But I also check my fluids at every fill up, tires at least weekly and change oil religiously at 3000 miles. Trannys get regular fluid and filter changes. I do diffs annually or at brake maintenance which ever comes first.

In other words, so far I have been able to stay ahead of major problems.

Most folks, these days, put gas in the tank and sometimes take their cars to quick lube joints. They run them to failure then blame the manufacturer.

Then again most don’t know a lug nut from a spark plug.
