I had an MP tell me that I could not take mine on the plane when I was coming home despite the fact that I was also carrying a M9 pistol and an M4. He continued to insist that I place my knife in the contraband box. As I was headed to the contraband box, I noticed two pieces of metal with a slight gap between them, so I slipped the blade in and snapped the blade off clean at the pivot. I thought he was going to cry!

My uncle was on his way home for the year end Holidays from overseas and a customs agent gave him fits over some electronic toys he was bringing back. Can't remember why they were supposed to be contraband, but he put them on the floor and stomped them good before letting them have them. There was pretty much the same reaction as you got.
