86gr in 300BLK?
Have several boxes of Hornady's 30 Mauser 86grRNs and would like to try loading in 300BLK. Anybody got any suggestions on loadings? Don't care if they cycle the action or not. Got unique, trail boss, 2400, h110/296. BTW, they do feed from the magazine of an AR when seated to the cannelure and crimped. I know it's awfully light for 300BLK, but it ought to be a bit better in 300BLK than using it in 30/30.

I have loaded .32 acp bullets as light as 71 gr. in the .300 whisper (ssk/j.d.j. data). T/C contender specific 32-20 loads were used back then for lighter than 110 gr. bullets.
As for alliant 2400..... 13.5 gr. is less than maximum in 1998 sierra published data for the .30/.221 and .300whisper for bullets as light as 85 gr. and as heavy as 180 gr. Obviously that charge weight is middle of the road for the lighter bullets but I'm not going to mention the maximums.

Re: 86gr in 300BLK?
Thanks, Ray. Hodgdon's site gives a load of 6gr Trail Boss with 150gr FMJs, so might give that load a start with the 86 grainers and see what happens. BTW, the way the TB meters out of my powder measure, I've gone to hand weighing each charge. As for the 2400, might as well try my favorite .357 158gr load as well.
I've got two BLK uppers, one is pistol gas and the other is carbine. The 13.5gr 2400 load just might cycle the pistol gas one.

Just tested the 13.5gr 2400 load in both pistol and carbine length gas in 16" barrels and it locked back both BCGs!
I wouldn't mind trying this load on a coyote! Doubt it would do the same with 6gr Trail Boss!
