ATF dropped the brace rule today...
... figures, on Friday the 13th.
I need to read it still. I can't imagine it is good. Net/net from what I heard, most AR-15 pistols will now be classified as SBR's and need to be registered as such and the $200 tax stamp paid.
For those who have such a thing. If I can find mind at the bottom of the lake, I'll need to consider this...

Re: ATF dropped the brace rule today...
my pistols don't have braces. just plain jane buffer tubes. including the 50. no problem. i even shoot my carbine that way sometimes, just because i can... (cheek weld on tube) or tube area of the shoulder "stock"... it's the same as the cheek weld on the sub2000. guys just need to quit shaving for a good flexible face mat. LOL AND remember to push forward against the sling . . .

293 pages long. Apparently the ATF thinks we are all Congress-critters who don't read bills but wait until they are passed to find out what is in them. I googled the new ATF form 4999 to see the scoring system (to determine if the AR pistol everyone lost in the boating accident is considered a SBR). Long story short, I doubt ANY AR-15 pistol would be below the point system assigned.
Tyranny of the bureaucrats. Hopefully the new GOP majority will jump on this, or someone will sue and we get an injunction PDQ.

I never understood how these so called braces passed NFA in the first place. How are they any different than attaching an A2 stock? Or putting a butt stock on a Ranch Hand? Despite the nomenclature they are butt stocks.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong or dangerous about people having them. Just saying it always looked like a fuzzy legality to me

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for the Republican Party to do anything remotely pro-gun. Generally the most they can manage to do is be slightly less anti-gun than the Democrats...
That doesn't mean I won't be writing my usual every month or two letter that reminds them that any form of background check is illegitimate, useless, and dangerous, and that the FairTax should be used to replace the income tax, that all elections should be conducted exclusively with paper ballots, and that legislation should be restricted to a single topic.
A short article on the ruling

And a Forgotten Weapons segment Ian just posted on it. It is worth showing to people who don't quite understand what's going on.

I love "Forgotten Weapons". One of my absolute favorite youtube channels (along with "Duelist54" and "Active Self Protection", and, non-gun, "PragerU").

reading on it today it sounds like it only applies to the "brace" part that locates on the buffer tube.

Re: ATF dropped the brace rule today...
I watched a YouTube video today from a lawyer specializing in firearms law. Like anyone else with a brain, he was upset about the power-grab and idiocy of the ATF ruling. He also had the best advice I've heard. Several pro-gun organizations have or will file suit. Chances are good that some sane judge will issue an injunction. His advice: don't rush out and let's wait for a month or two to see what happens.

Good show on it...

If the Rhino party had any integrity they'd abolish the agency anyway.
