Unusual 1886

Post by Rockrat »

Was in a nearby pawn/gun shop and they had an 1886 on consignment. Nice looking wood, silver forearm cap, half octagonal-half round barrel that looked to be about 30". Believe it was chambered in 45-70. Pretty hefty price tag. Think it was $7400. Don't think I have ever seen one quite like that. Gorgeous looking gun.

You could order them any way you wanted, and if they have condition! the price goes up fast!

Condition and rarity rules on vintage Winchesters.
But having a factory letter to prove it is a must.

Original 1886's have gone crazy, and the more special order features they have, the crazier the prices are. Original carbines also seem to get huge prices, and finding one in nice condition can bring $10k prices all day long!
This rifle with a half octagon barrel, and if it's truly a 30" will add even more value. But it needs to be an above average shape to get $7400. Dealers often ask big prices, but usually end up selling a little less if it doesn't sell quickly.
Pre WWI Marlins and Singleshot rifles!
