Old guy issues...

Post by gcs »

Figure I'd ask the rest of you old guys... :P
Have any of you found a prostrate formula that helps not getting up several times a night?
I've tried several that did nothing, I read an article that most of the herbal formulas were too deficient in the alleged proper herbs to do much and that its an industry wide "scam" to get your money, then of course the article claims THEIR formula works like a charm!, lol.

Any insights, advise or anecdotes always appreciated....

Have your Vitamin D checked quarterly and keep it between 50-80
Xymogen Prostate FLO helped me. I don’t take it anymore because once my D levels were up I don’t need to take a leak at night.
Kind regards,

.
Always consider finding and fixing the CAUSE and not just treating the symproms; only a trip to your personal physician can exclude dangerous causes (prostate nodules or cancer, endocrine dysruption, etc.) and arrive at the safest and best treatment regimen, and some over-the-counter or 'natural' regimens can help symptoms, but I find all three prescription classes to work well:

The 'Flomax' drugs - start working fast, but over the years can lose potence.
The 'Proscar' drugs - slow to start working, but mechanism holds better over time.
The 'Cialis' drugs - off-label use for prostate swelling (and uterine cramps in women, since the tissues are of the same derivation embryologicially) has proven pretty effective.

The biggest 'cause' I find is 'undetermined cause' but the second biggest (maybe 1/3 of cases) would be ELEVATED ESTROGEN, so I always check for that, as it not only seems to be a big cause for enlarged prostate, but if elevated, may increase risk for stroke and diabetes. It would appear that the ratio of testosterone and estrogen has to be maintained one way or another in both sexes, for good health to be maintained, completely aside from the purely sexual function of those hormones.

Flo Max for me, and I take some Vita D, and 4-6 16oz bottles of water a day, sometimes more.

I take one 5 mg Cialis and two Super Beta Prostate P3 Advanced a day and it seems to work well for me so far.
But it seems that anything I take to help me sleep or help me breathe counter acts what I take for my prostate

Yep. For lots of guys, Sudafed is enough to stop them up pretty good.

I see far too many patients who have the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach, and it bites them bad (as in slow and painful death or disability) - especially the guys. Women are far easier to take care of as patients, because although they are more bothered by the unclothed aspect of medical encounters (a simple cloth gown solves that issue), they are willing to communicate about things that aren't working right, ask about symptoms or side-effects, and follow up for testing as advised.

I used to think that. As I have continued to get older I realize I probably would not change a thing.

Are you on any blood pressure meds? Actually, any meds. Check to see if they have a diuretic effect.

Are you sure it's your prostrate that's making you get up all night long, two years ago I'd get up at least 4 times a night I went to the doctor and found out I had
type 2 diabetes, first sign of type 2 is peeing all the time and excessive thurst.
Doc put me on 2 Metforemen pills a day from that day on I sleep all night long.
Just a thought.

Prescription Finasteride (5mg) works for me; took me from 3 times a night to one or, sometimes, two. My urologist says there's one more step he can take, short of cataclysmic, but this has worked for the last 5 years or better. I'm 77 now; born a week after VE day. My 94's and my 99 still get to go for walks, but they're short ones. Wasn't gonna buy a deer tag this year, for the first time since I got out of the army, but I caved at the last moment out of a feeling of incompleteness. Note to self: if I spot a buck going downhill, don't shoot unless there's a road even further down; I ain't carryin' no frypan!

I have been on doxazocin ( Cardura) for about 10 years now for BPH and it doesn’t necessarily put an end to nighttime bladder breaks it put an end to the sudden uncontrollable need to pee while, say, standing in line at the grocery store, thank gosh.

Just curious, but do you also take a diuretic for high BP? If I'm heading out for the day, I can't take mine for obvious reasons.
