Scott, that Irish gun has some interesting features. Very long cylinder base pin, short ejector rod, almost Bisley-style hammer and thin top strap. What cartridge was it chambered for? I can see why you want it, very elegant design. Jeep, what is that thing? Not fair to post the picture of such an interesting gun, and not say what it is! :D More information needed please!!!! -Tutt

It is marked .445 but that cartridge is now known as the .455 Webley.

That there is a Webley_Fosbery .455 automatic Model 1902. (Jeepniks post)

There was one used in the "Maltese Falcon" that used in the beginning of the movie. There were also a few running around in British officers holsters during WWI.

Amazing piece of machinery. Only one I've seen in person was at the Imperial War Museum in England.

Why? Because you're a Sherlock Holmes fan? That's partly my reason anyhow.

Because of the Custer connection . . . ?

"In September 1869, Lord Berkeley ( C.S. Paget) presented a pair of the 1867 pattern Webley R.I.C. revolvers to Brevet Major General George Custer"

.
I want LOTS of different guns...

Some for practical reasons (but not that many)...

Most just because they have cool mechanisms, interesting history, make a nice 'pair' or 'set' with others I have.....or just make a loud noise when you pull the trigger ...

Scott, good God man Scott, do you have a line on an RIC? Regarding the .455 Webley, a 265-grain bullet at about 600, Jeff Cooper wrote in 1965 that "In the RIC "Bulldog" snubby it is possibly the best undercover sidearm ever made." 8)

Lots of interesting old guns I want, but I am not interested enough to be willing to pay the high cost.

I don't intend to get one. I'm extremely happy with my American Bulldog candidate #4. (which has a striking similarity in a number of ways). I have been re-working the stocks and I need to install a lanyard ring, but otherwise, it is about perfect.

In fact, I am fixing to divest myself of the other candidates.

We took a .455 Webley off an Iraqi prisoner. I carried it for a few days and even managed to get to shoot 2 shots. Cool gun but not a powerhouse. Sadly it was destroyed!
