Range Report A levergun results video
Went out with Blaine and some more of the good guys last weekend. I got myself a chrono and set up a little ballistic station off to the side of the main events.
If you recall my RedHawk subsonic load report, I added a half grain to the charge and documented the results. I ran out of bullets so the plinking aspect was subdued. We did get hits out on the 116 yard gong.
With a subsonic 405g 44 cal load. Ok, Ok I guess I am easily impressed.
The levergun part is that I loaded up some .460 425g Beartooth cast bullets to a couple of levels and clocked them. Then I shot some jugs for effect. They're effective. But to me, nothing beats the 525g PileDriver on anything from the muzzle to beyond 100 yards. Suffice to say it outpenetrated a couple of 420 grain loads by about double.
Get some popcorn, caffein free diet coke, (eeeuuuu, did I say that?), and plunk down in front of this for a spell:

Folks 'round here don't like steel. Hard to find anywhere that will allow a privately held, non-sanctioned gong, professionally built or not.

That was great Grizz....thank you for sharing that.

I believe that PileDriver may cause excessive blood loss.
... I love poetry, long walks on the beach, and poking dead things with a stick.

You need to get out more often; try these folks; Michigan City Rifle Club, last summer I shot a cowboy action match there, and if there weren't steel, I ain't ever seen any!Old Ironsights wrote:Sigh.

We shoot in the forest near the east boundry of Grays Harbor Co.
multipurpose recreation area
we've tried a lot of places, but this one gives us 140 open yards
what's that range like? can you set up gongs and shoot water jugs?

Thanks Grizz. I'm gonna have to get one of those new-fangled 45 caliber stompers some time soon. There is no reason only you and TripleT should have all the fun.
And, you are right, you're awful easy to impress. Now if you could run that PileDriver through those four round pieces of wood you've got all that soft water stacked on; I'd be impressed.

Re: A levergun results video
Rio Hondo Hank was traversing them sideways last year in WY with his Marlin .50 Alaskan, my dinky 525 load wouldn't do it. But Hank loads them up on the cusp and as you know I'm cusp-shy! I only had one so I couldn't backstop his bullets to check them out.Now if you could run that PileDriver through those four round pieces of wood you've got all that soft water stacked on; I'd be impressed.
LOL, thanks

I don't know...I was hoping to ask you! I know they are the only local range with enough distance the shoot BPCR metallic silly-wet. I shoot at Paul Bunyan in Puyallup. You CAN NOT set up non-match gongs or water jugs...paper targets only! (Darn it!)Grizz wrote:We shoot in the forest near the east boundry of Grays Harbor Co.

You can shoot in national forests, you can shoot in capitol state forest, probably some others too. I just look for the old logging roads, they usually have some wide outs and dead ends that are useful. I hate shooting at gun ranges and go out of my way to find spots. It's kind of fun exploring around the area. GPS is very useful.
