No doubt that you guys cut a lot more wood than I do and you'll probably think this is another fancy gimmick but it works well and quickly for me. A flat file is built in to lower the depth gauges and there are two round files facing opposite directions so that you can cut the second set of teeth by turning over the tool. The handles are shaped to help maintain the proper angle. The tool is made by Pferd and is also marketed by Stihl.

Holy smokes Walt!
I's not edumicated enough to operate sumpin that sophisticated. :D
I swear, I've never even heard of anything like that. Pretty cool idea though. It's pretty common here to see a vise bolted to the inside of tailgates on pickups.
My problem is I'm always out in the woods on foot with the saw. Usually I do t need to file it out there unless I hit something. A saw file is easy to carry for a quick touch up. I don't even have a file handle on the one I take in the woods.
I actually use my saw in the dooryard relatively little. That sure would be a nice change. :D

Yes Walt…a file is the best way to do it as it does not heat the metal like the way I do it…but I know how to do it…….the slower anything is done the better it is. The way I see it chains are relatively cheap and I’m not an “all year round” wood cutter……one chain may last me several seasons and with 5 saws some don’t even see use……..still have Stilh Woodboss new from like 5 years ago. One battery ego…..one electric and the one Jay knows best, “The Soul Pole saw” . That’s the one that extends to around 12’ and has like a 10” bar…it’s small but mighty……..

Some day I’ll tell you about the Soul Pole and the teacher……it’s about Jamal and Lackaquisha…

These spell checkers are a PITA……all the stupid stuff I write comes out in many different ways.

Yea Jay…the Walt guy is sophisticated. IM 70 and still don’t understand angles……I hear all these fancy terms like “45 degrees” and people doing a “180”….they are edumacated. The new Stabilizer I bought says “Marine 360”….does that mean a Marine soldier running in circles?

Haha yeah. Ain't that a Marine with eyes in the back of his head?
Thats the stuff I used. I ran it all the time in my Harley. Not just when I stored it. That ethanol was poison to the Harley. It hated it. The Ethanol free super made a huge difference.

Last night. Then paroled for another week.

I'm off every week. Just work weekends. Next week I only work Friday and Saturday. I'm off Sunday and the following Friday and Saturday. My DIL and granddaughter are flying down from Alaska for the oldest boys wedding.

Haha yup! Lit up like a Cornville T-itty bar!

Geeze…you just can’t make a kid realize that once the ring on the finger goes on, you’re no longer free……old Chinese saying, “once man take wife and children, he is held hostage for life.”

That’s it!!!!!! I’m going to Cornville!,,,…. Hey! Wouldn’t that be something, you cruising down the road to the property and there I am, sitting on the side of the road in Cornville in the Rubi……..and we just wave at each other……….then you’ll notice the passenger side of the Jeep is touching the ground with a Cornville hottie in it…….

Yeah it's weird. The youngest (Cody) married first, then the middle, then the oldest last (35).
No worries. They could all buy and sell me now. Got all kinds of toys, own houses bigger than mine. Cody has a pension coming in 4.5 years at 37 years old. Another one (his wife) 2 years after that. Plus GI bills for school.
They should be set.
Me? I'll be eating skunks living in my shack in Brighton. But I'm good with that. Maybe not the skunks. :D
Had a big bull moose on my trail camera last week. That will get me by in style for a good bit. Have to dust off the 71. :D

Don't stop beside the road with a minty TJ Rubicon in Cornville! Before you knew what happened thay "Cornville hottest will have picked it up and carried it in the woods so her father/husband or brother/husband could strip it for parts or do an LS swap. :D

Ha! Cornville hotties…..

There’s no better feeling than seeing your kids do better or at least as good as you. No drug issues or major alcohol issues…..ya know, I don’t like Hollywood at all and I’m sure you feel the same way……but I do get bored a lot and sometimes I resort to watching something “free on demand”…….the other night me and mom watched this movie where this older couple gets married and they both have slugs at home who are in their late thirties and still living at home…..it’s a comedy with Will Farrel…..S. , you and I both knew we were “out the door” at 18 and besides I wanted to be out. Sometimes there’s circumstances where the kids will be at home for longer and I don’t have a problem with “special circumstances”…but…..they had better be “special.

I also will not tolerate under any circumstances someone living here who is not my blood….zero…zero….zero…tolerance. …they can live in the barn, which is nice, but they won’t come in the house…let em S out in the weeds. People will hate you anyway so I figure at least I’ll still be king of the compound.

In 1972, with mom, our son, and we had $800 in the bank and everything I owned in the back seat of my ‘68 Camaro with no where to go, I did it.I absolutely refused to live with someone else…..I learned long ago that when your down, people will kick you in the face, even family. Today I can buy and sell every one of those 3 times over who did the kicking.

Yup. My door is always open to my family.
But I ain't supporting them or their kids. Just like when my parents joke that they are "spending my inheritance", I am quick to say they aren't. They owe me nothing. What they have is theirs. It's MY job to make sure they are taken care of now that they are older. Just like they took care of me when I was growing up.
To me, it's just that simple.

We could not think more alike. I’ve told my kids this house is theirs also and they will never have to worry about a roof over their head or food to eat……of course, now they better make that promise to me. We ate the one dog last night and tomorrow we’re eating Miss Apple. The cats will be roasted over the weekend.

Ya know what pees me off…….people who never thought about the future and were bums the major part of their life…..theres 3 right now who bought fancy cars, “gun shop guns”….(those decline in value) big parties like they were DuPonts, 4,000 sq foot houses with pools, etc. and now are as close to destitute as one can become. They know better than to ask me for anything, even a dented spoon. My sister who everyone thinks is a zillionaire does not have 2 pennies to rub together. Her and her husband were in the iron and steel business, …..she ironed and he stealed from anyone they could manipulate.

On to better things as those other things bring back bad memories. Here’s a pic from last night…..the Trump sign had lights around it but looked black from the road…..so tonight I put my Costco spotlight out there which will stay bright a good 4 hours when set on low.

There are stories all over the country of people stealing or destroying Trump yard signs. Clever homeowners are wiring their signs so that anyone who touches them gets shocked. I would use an electric fence transformer and put up a little sign that says, "WARNING, I have a gun and I have a backhoe".

Yes, legally you have to have no trespassing signs…..I do as I also have “Keep Out” signs……I had that girl who stole a Trump sign from me 4 years ago brought in for questioning at the State Police barracks. The guy driving behind her took a picture of her plate and stopped at the house. Nothing was done .

Look at the picture several posts up…..I got pipes in the ground with wires and a milk crate….from the road it looks like something evil.its just pipes, an old spotlight, and some neon trimmer line.

There’s still another good 50 yards to the road from the sign. At the end on the driveway I have a safety cone painted up with Trump on it and no one has stolen it. I’m surprised as it’s only 5 feet from the road…..inside is a pint sized can filled with this fluid that attracts flies….this stuff smells so bad you’d think your in the hood…….nothing is nastier, even something dead……I was hoping someone would steal it and would not notice the smell because they’d be in a hurry, then throw it in the back seat of Dads Lexus……..guaranteed, that smell would never come out the same way the smell from a homeless guy you gave a ride to would never come out……..

Yea, you could leave the windows down for 20 years and it’d still stink.

Yeah, that's the problem. Even when caught, they don't do anything to these people. I mean, do the math. They don't punish murderers anymore, they surely won't do anything to someone defacing a Trump sign.
I like that about your place. It sits way back from the road. Plenty of room for a mine field. :D
Beautiful place you have. You'd be a rich guy up here. My place is a dump. Especially when you figure Ive had a good job for 37 years. Oh well. I don't really care, or I would have done more with it over the years. Honestly, I just can't see spending a bunch of money on it so they can punish you by upping your taxes.
If you ain't noticed yet, I'm kind of an odd duck. :D

First, our place is surely not much….a little brick rancher with 1400 sq. feet of living space. The land is nice. Taxes are based on sq footage of living space and I knew I was not going to have 47 kids so I kept things affordable.

Jay……what makes you think your place is any less? I think it’s the pefect size like ours…..easy to maintain, less to go wrong which all leads to having more loot for the things you like….

Around here there are many old stone houses from the late 1600’s-early 1800’s and they are around 16’ wide and 24’ long…….one story…..over the years people built on to them but it’s easy to see the original building……and in those days you had to be a person of means to start a life like that…..many are chartered from the original William Penn land grant from the King……..believe it was King Gamekeeper.

Told you many times….I don’t give a F what others think while they live in their 5K footers where half of the house is not furnished and they are counting penny’s the day before payday.

Back to our regularly scheduled program…..got to check the charging on the spotlight…..only used one bar out of four from 3 hours of run time last night.

Haha yeah. I bought this place in 1990. I did a bunch of .work inside before I moved in, but I haven't done much since haha. I did finish off the cellar in 2001 and mo e my gun room down there. Place is looking worn and dated now, but I just don't care. :D

Now! I ate my supper and now I'm heading back downstairs to finish loading up some 45 Colts.
Hit the range today. I shot dad's old eastern carbine. It's been hanging on the wall behind my chair for a long time. I think the last time it was fired my boy was shooting it in 2003. :D

One thing about a Winchester…they WORK no matter how old they are or how they look……and all done at a time when CNC machining was a dream.

As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “simplify, simplify, simplify.” and the note Einstein gave to a young Japanese bell hop:

A calm and modest life brings more happiness than the pursuit of success combined with constant restlessness."

People call having a lot of money “success”. I laugh at that. It brings aggravation from others who are always climbing up your A asking for money, causing trouble in your life and it takes up all of your time and thought. “Modesty”….a simple comfortable life with enough money to live well …..always food on the table and warm in the winter……plus hundreds of fine Winchesters & Colts in your hideout.

Them……I need money”………Me….“How much money do you want that you don’t expect to pay back?”………….me….I don’t have much money and my slush fund is keeping me alive and I ain’t selling’ no guns so you can buy a new car……….them….well, can you co-sign for a loan?”………….me, …..nope, my credit rating is zero”…………..me, “now go home and j.o., you’ll feel better”. :D

Haha yeah. What little money I have, is mostly in my pension and 401k, for when I'm done working. Here at home, I mostly have just my "stuff" and my family.
Like you said, I eat good, loaf around at camp in the woods, and mostly do what I want. Truth is, I have more than I ever thought I would. Not a lot money, but that's not what I judge success or happiness by. I've been lucky, and count myself blessed.

Good for you……..and me….:D this came from ME….never heard it anywhere else……when they say “what is the definition of success”, 99% of people will say, “money”…….I say, “it’s how well you sleep at night”. By that you know you have done right. (Mostly :D)….have no one breathing down your neck for money or other problems……….you know you’ll wake up with a smile……and most of all, your freedom to do what you want to do anytime you want to do it……Working is a necessary somewhat evil endeavor but I’ve been 100% free for 8.4 years, not including what mom tells me what to do…..

Now you know why I’m such a F. off….,.I don’t care what others think and no one can tell me what to do and no one holds anything over my head…….anything I’ve done wrong in the past I paid for it and there were more than a few things. I learned.

Of course there are laws and such and there’s not much anyone can do about that except if your a politician.

Enjoy life now…there ain’t no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow…….once you reach a certain age anything can happen or for that matter, any age…..being truly happy is when you can’t wait to get up and spring out of bed and for me that was around 12-16 y.o.

Then as you age other people find a way of disrupting that happiness so you turn them off and your circle gets smaller and smaller until you get like me, just me and mom, the kids and two buddies I can count on.

Even though I can outwork most 30 year olds and am still relatively strong with endurance, I’ve been telling mom not to buy green bananas anymore. Old folks appear to be happy but they are not, That shows up in them only buying one pair of socks instead of a bundle or buying a Rossi instead of a fine Winchester. :D

Change of subject, I said the other day I need to get back into drinking Bourbon so I bought a bottle of Elijah Craig small batch, can't say I'm impressed I was going for Makers Mark which I like but saw the Elijah Craig which I've never tried... :( what's y'all favourite brands :?:

I hear ya GK…….already told mom if I croak first, no services, no obit.,no burial, in the burn pit and spread around the back yard, my favorite place in the world……the only people who show up are only showing up to meet people they haven’t seen in a while and enemies show up up just for the laugh……I learned that from Captain Kirk, a.k.a. William Shatner……he says people are soon forgotten, along with their knowledge. He started naming famous names and said, “who talks about them anymore?” It’s true.

Ever notice the bro’s? They live like there’s no tomorrow and for a lot of them there isn’t a tomorrow…… :D ….people concern themselves with material growth which only gets sold at auction or squirreled away. I feel like I did it right, lived modestly but comfortable but if I get reborn it’s going to be a 2 room cabin on 1,000 acres.

I’m burning a bit right now…went to Brandywine Hardware with my “reward cards” and the snotty little B would not give me my .15% off because I was $3 short of the $75 required so I added a root beet soda. Then I gave her my $10 reward card which is as good as cash but she said I couldn’t use the cards together. I told her to look at my buying history which could change pronto…..she didn’t budge so I went back to the paint section to get 2 cans of spray paint at .$5.99 a can and then had a change of thought, threw the cans back where they were and called it a day. Yea, they were right but I’ll be more right the next time I buy those little $7.99 batteries and my buffalo coat.

Dang it Jay…..I can afford my own buffalo coat….in fact, I even have several but the fur was taken off……a.k.a. Army field coats……those pockets will hold a lot of batteries……

One night, probably 35 years ago I was working the night shift for 2 weeks. (Second shift..3:30-12) and a few of us wanted to have a contest to see how many beers we could smuggle into the plant……a few of us got 8-10 each and my buddy Clint, a M-60 machine gunner in Nam who got shot up pretty good and he didn’t care much about life won the contest with 14…..he had on his field coat with the liner in…….he was a big dude and the coat was probably a 3X……..he had 14 …12 oz. glass Michelobs up his arms between the liner and the coat, his side pockets, chest pockets, one in each pants pocket and other places I can’t remember……..we went in the warehouse..no boss’s anywhere on night shift and we had a party…..the beer and weed were moving right along when one guy wanted to have a shooting contest so we got a stack of pallets and set quart bottles of seltzer on it and blazed away with a nickel plated Colt D.S…..maybe 20 rounds….funny as heck, almost like the guy who had the gun was planning it with the extra ammo.

Those were the days……one time on the loading dock at around 9 pm two buddies of mine were drinking beer in a trailer right about where the trailer touched the dock…..the main man who ran the place decided to stop in at night to see what was going on….he walked up to these guys who had nowhere to turn and this big boss looked at the beer and seen it was Schlitz, a company he used to work for….he told them, “OK, as long as you keep it Schlitz”. Really, drinking on the job was no big deal as long as you were not sloppy drunk. I’m going back to about 1978 or so.

My son told me that the old timers told him that is was standard routine for the low man on the train to bring the bottle and the weed. Now they are checked frequently with pee and blood tests for ANY kind of illicit drug. They tried that with us and I told the business agent, “what? we are not responsible for other people’s safety and you have no right to invade our bodies without just cause.” So we compromised and the boss and a shop steward would question the person supposedly drunk or high…..kind of like a field sobriety test…..then send them to the hospital for a blood test.

Haha oh man that's awesome! There used to be plenty of beer and weed at work years ago (not me). We even had a lot of guns in there. Buying and selling in the cafeteria and having them in our coats and stuff (plenty me). But I gotta say dude.....you got me beat by a mile with shooting them at work! That's just friggen awesome!

I love the old M65 field jacket. I've had one most if my life. I liked to carry a snubby in the pocket. I could keep a firing grip on it in my pocket while standing talking to someone.
They are a great coat.

Beautiful Colts buddy!

Yea….we used to shoot at work from time to time….one guy was a convicted felon and, as you know, can’t own guns. I was working at our satellite warehouse and he was truck jockey. We got talking guns and he told me his personal story and said it was years since he shot anything so I grabbed a bottle of soda, threw it on the ground and as my Jeep was right there I handed him my 642 and said “go to town!

He shot off the five rounds and said it never felt so good. He nicknamed me “bullets” after that for about 5 years until he died of hepatitis. He’d call me on the radio and say, “hey Bullets, is the trailer backed in right for ya?”

Anyway, me and mom were just watching the news and some company came out with a new spacesuit for astronauts. (I made this up) I told her those suits weigh 500 pounds and even the women astronauts have to wear them”. ….she said your crazy, that would break the back of anyone.” I looked her in the eye for awhile until she caught on. I called her “stupido” which is Italian for stupid.

The senior gunsmith at Westley Richards (Charlie Eaves)told me that when he was an apprentice it was his job at lunchtime to take several jugs to the different pubs near the factory and fill them with beer, thinking he'd save time he once filled all the jugs at the first pub and boy did he cop it when the guys tasted what was not their favourite brew.
The only place I worked that enforced a no alcohol rule was Cadbury as they were Quakers at the time.
Britain is a much more Beer friendly country than the USA... :D

Hey there King Gamekeeper! You’re right…and it was not all that long ago where drinking was acceptable anywhere………what screwed it up were the lawyers here…….the lawyers saw big money in DUI’s with the resulting court appearances.

Back in my day the cops would just take our beer and put it into their own patrol car.

That boy of mine has an insatiable appetite for speed. Most people grow out of it. Couple of years ago he bought that dirt bike from Norway…I think Norway, I don’t follow that stuff.) and now he’s on a quest and is in negotiations with the dealer……some bike that’s over 20G’s…..

When he says he’s gonna get something he gets it…..zero modesty in him…..pretty much like you know.

This is off their website or catalog..I don’t know…something. It’s my fault for getting him a Z-50 when he was 8.

It looks like it says Ducati on the tank. That's an Italian company which has long specialized in bikes for the elite.

Yup its a Ducati. Their adventure bikes are called a Multistrada. Yeah, outta my price range.

Want to camp and put on the stands seats and camo'd all the stands. When I climbed up into my hang on stand to bolt the seat on, I noticed the tree had split all the way down to where my stand is strapped on. Must have been that bad storm last winter, cause it wasn't fresh. It's a big cedar, and I really like the spot, so I was bummed. I'm gonna ride it out this season, then pull it down and find a new tree.
Had some trees down from the wind the other day, but not bad.

Cool this morning. It was 27 degrees.

27? That’s a killer frost…….after one of those all of the flies, hornets, stink bugs and other sorts of vermin are gone.

How big around is that cedar? You could always put one of those heavy steel barrel clamps around it. Cedar don’t rot, well, at least in our lifetime…….maybe even a few rolls of gorilla glue duct tape……..

I never hunted out of a tree.

It's a good sized tree. Probably 18 or 20 inches at the butt. I looked at maybe cutting off the left side of the split. It has more lean on that side. Assuming the right side wouldn't break. I took this picture from my stand looking up. The split stops at the stand straps.

That tree ain’t going nowhere soon……if you really like that spot and not kill the tree, just go to the hardware store or Home Depot and buy some 36” x 1/2x20 threaded stock with some big washers along with a long drill bit that’ll probably cost $35 and run that through the tree. I’ve done that more than once to save a “Y” in the tree from splitting. Or a couple of tow straps with the crank on them.

I finally figured out how to upload videos from my I pad to You Tube…..my settings needed to be changed.

Check this out…made this video tonight and added a powerful strobe light and two blinking yellow lights we used to take from the road when they were working on it……at least 54 years old and I put in 2 new lantern batteries each. Cars were slowing down to admire it.—-00

Haha awesome man! I didn't see a place to comment on my phone. I was the first to "like" it though!
I thought of using one of the wide truck ratchet straps to hold the tree together, and may still.

Ooohhhh..King Gamekeeper got the first comment………I just saw that….tank you bro! Yea, your right, ain’t no brave democrats….

Jayster…..I know you already know this………..if it gets too windy where the tree might split when your on it, it’s too windy to hunt…:D

I bet that tree is over a hundred years old……..if it’s like the cedar I have outside it took 50 years to get about a foot at the base and we have a longer growing season……..with the tree split it’s giving out lots of “tree odor” so you can pass gas right in the crack….you know, crack to crack

No, it's there. Just the way the picture looks I guess. There is a lot of cedar in this area. It's thick down by the stream with thin, rocky soil. Lots of blown down spruce, it's a mess and almost impossible to walk in places. That's why I cut little foot trails. They are for me and the deer to use, and I put my stands along them. Its a full time job keeping the open, so i dont like making too many. I've shot one good buck and a big male coyote out of this one.

They make a small chainsaw with an 8” bar that would be perfect for your needs. For real, you could carry it on your belt or backpack. As you know, you can cut a 16” tree with an 8” bar.

Went outside to start splitting and did a 180 back to the house. I’m worn out bro.. Something you would know……I read that there was not a man in a logging camp that was over 35, unless he was the cook.

Yeah, I've looked at the 10" bar ones to use for keeping my trails open. Be a lot easier than lugging that 545 Husky through 2 miles of trails.
