I removed the spacers, spray painted them black, and re-installed them. To my view, white spacers are not for me. If the paint wears off, I'll likely buy a black plastic trash can and make my own spacers.

Just look a woodcraft.com, buy a piece of ebony and make a classy grip cap. Could even go one further, add the ebony and then inlet a skeleton grip cap! I'd bet it would be the only Marlin with one!
Ebony and hickory side beside in perfect harmony on my Marlin buttstock.
Do you think Michael and Paul could have used those words?
Seriously, I never bothered with the white spacers. I guess it is because I don't care whether they are on or not.

They made as much sense as fins on sedans in 1959.
In which case they make a very great style statement. I do love fins on cars. Straight up, rolled over or flaring out to the side, they add a stylish look.

It would seem as if we have several opinions on style. It could be worse.

Well all youn genst that are taking them off your guns please send me an email and I will provide my address for you to send them to me. I buy and sell quite a few Marlins and lots of them have buggered spacers. Around here you will hear it if the Marlins don't have the white spacers when trying to sell.

There was a time when they were in style. Almost every gun maker used them. Removing then would remove collector value
on some guns. That said, I can take them or leave them but prefer my guns without them.
I never liked white spacers on anything. They always looked more modern than I cared for and tacky at best on anything. I discovered that on Marlins, they shot pins into the buttplates and spacers to hold them in place, I suppose when drilling and mounting the plate. I tapped the pins in a little more, filed the boss around the screw holes down that indexed the spacers, and put the hard rubber butt plate back on without the spacer.

Isnt it amazing how many people post without reading the thread?

when I was a kid growing up in the 6o's-70's, they were all the rage. So I was sort of numbed to them. Don't care for them on my personal guns either.
