New to me 64 added carry handle.
Well, I got that Winchester model 64 in 30 WCF that I had mentioned a while back. I traded the late 70s Win 94 and 150 bucks for it. I'm pretty happy. It is drilled and tapped on the right-hand side, the sight has been ground off on the right side for a scope, and the length of pull is 12 1/2 inches without the pack Meyer pad. Other than that, it's about is clean a gun as I could want. Looking forward to shooting it.

Re: New to me 64
That is a very nice rifle, and a Deluxe too!
I am a big fan of the checkered pistol grip stock on rifles. We have a fellow shooting Cowboy Lever Action Rifle Silhouette with a Model 64 at Hat Creek Rifle & Pistol Club and he does well with it. I'm looking forward to your range report.

Re: New to me 64
A few plug screws and you are set. I have never seen one drilled and tapped for a lefty before. Those mounts must have been reversable. Otherwise it's in nice shape. Congrats.

Re: New to me 64
Tycer,
4 plug screws, a rear sight dovetail plug, a patridge front sight and a Williams FP on the rear and you got it made ... at least that's what I'd do with it.
Ones things for sure, as nice as it is over all, the collectors value is long gone. Can't hurt that any more.

That's the plan. I generally smush a .22 lead bullet in dovetails as a filler.

Re: New to me 64
Well Joe, I have sinned. It just so happened that I had a Weaver 3a Side Mount Base and a Weaver Detachable Mount and a Lyman 66 and a Leupold Vari X IIc and some time and well, I sinned. I actually like it better on the right than on the left. The turrets are not in the way and it's an easy transition from cheek/peep to jaw/scope and back. I'll see how that plays at the range. . .
Kind regards,
Tycer

Well that's one way to plug up the screw holes
I am interested to hear a range report on how the scope, receiver sight works.

Well Tycer ....I see you got it....good for you.....that's a very nice rifle....almost like a Ferrari that has a dent on the hood.
I'd strip that gun down to the bare receiver....send it off to John Taylor and let him weld up the holes, then rust blue it.----6

Re: New to me 64 added carry handle.
I hate the looks of a scope on a lever gun but they sure look good looking through the scope at a target. For old eyes anyhow. Bought my daughter a plain 64 rifle for deer hunting and she loves it. Good shooting.
Re: New to me 64 added carry handle.
I am, but I don't have a strong dominant left eye. I have to put an opaque disc or vaseline on my right eyeglass lens when shooting clays. I was "conditioned" to shoot right handed pistol and rifle but learned to shoot clays with a fitted gun just a few years ago on the left side. Since then I've taught myself to shoot pistols left handed but I still naturally shoulder a rifle on the right side. This side scope seems much easier to shoot right handed than left.
Kind regards,
Tycer
