I've never seen one Doc, let alone used one, but I use a lot of moon clips. Back when I was shooting IPSC a lot I really liked the revolver class and mostly used a Smith with full moon clips. Loading was easy but unloading is easiest with a dowel that fits inside the empty. Gripping the case with the dowel and right thumb, twist anti-clockwise and pull the empty out. Sounds easy but your fingers get sore, even mine which are accustomed to twisting wrenches.

I'm pretty much resistant to change. Been using the half moons since '74. Years later I bought some full moons but I had a hard time adapting, plus the full moons are aggravating to work with so gave them away. Besides, I never saw an aftermarket clip of any kind that had the thickness and the quality of spring steel like the ones that come from our military.----6-
Sorry no help. I use California Competition tools to moon and demoon.

The ones S&W sells (or used to sell) for their 1955 Target 45 were also excellent quality spring steel.
In the 80s there were some cheap, unblued, soft garbage half moon clips on the market. Theyd bend so much just loading that they didn't hold the rounds securely, and were oversized also. Sharp edges. Makes me shudder to think of them all these years later. May need therapy.

Isnt it amazing how many people post without reading the thread?
I've used Ranch Products moon clips for some time. Nary a problem.

The problem is geometry.
That red lever swings through an arc and has an indent that is used to push a round into the moon clip.
So that indent also swinge through an arc which is a curved path.
The moon clips is on an arbor and has an orientation that puts the cartridge right at the mouth on the opening in the moon clip.
Problem is that the arc that the notch pusher follows, does not match the what the round needs to be pushed into the moon clip.
The round needs to be pushed straight into the moon clip.
The Revolver Supply Company has two new patented tools that straighten out the problem you are running into.
There are two holes for the center arbor on the tool, and you use the one farther from the handle axis for the larger cartridges...
.....I may be slow to learn, but sometimes I can be really dumb, too.....
I gotta say, this tool is FAST, and really slick.
I also gotta say - I have some moon clips for somebody that I got at a gun show as "fitting 45 ACP revolvers, including the S&W, Ruger, Colt and others".....unfortunately, the Ruger Redhawks use smaller diameter moon clips, needed to clear the smaller milled-out area on them versus (I'm assuming) the S&W's. After I got the MoonClipTool, sure enough, their website lists a different moon clip for the Redhawks versus the 1917's and 25's.

never used the tool, but went to their site to look. This picture seems to show it has plenty of clearance to work properly. I'd guess it's sized for each arm it's made for?
Doc, what are your thought about the Judge? Todd3/leg
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres
250 Savage... its what the 223 wishes it could be...!
So, now I see why I went with the Blackhawk. Just switch cylinders and don't bother with fighting that flat spring steel.
