Powder Score

Post by Ji in Hawaii »

My nephew is moving to the Wyoming and he can't take powder with him so he gave them to me- Varget, IMR-4064 (one of my favorites), and Re22. He also gave me a full length sizing die for a 308win, and a partial box of CCI 22LR.

I'm not familiar with Re22 so better do some research. What do you use Re22 for? Re7 one of favorites though.

I listening to a reloading podcast the other night, they said powder supplies should be back to the old normal by Christmas.

Well that's good news!
Meanwhile, I'm keeping my eyes peeled out for some discontinued SR4759.

Aloha, or "Ayuh" as they say here in Maine...

Found this info online for you Ji, as I'd heard it was pretty good in the 6.5x55 Swedish (but have never tried it in mine):

From the Alliant Powder website:
This top-performing powder for big game loads provides excellent metering, and is the powder of choice for .270, 7mm magnum and .300 Win Mag. It is a powder of choice for 7mm Mag & .300 Win Mag, with excellent metering, and it is accurate and consistent.

Q&A from a posting on Firing Line forum:
Q: RE19 or RE22 in 6.5 Swede, which is best?
A1: Re22 with a 140 grain bullet is the classic load, and I have had good luck with it.
A2: +1 on the RL 22!

Q&A from a posting on Guns & Ammo site:
Q: What is the difference between RE22 and RL22 powder guys? I have never used this powder.
A: RE and RL powders are the same thing. Made by Alliant. Some folks say RL, some say RE. I guess the confusion is the 'Reloader' name. Don't know if it should be abbreviated RE or RL, but the letters are used interchangeably by us common folks and the loading manuals.

Hope this helps points you in the right direction.

Good luck, and tight groups!

That's exactly what my nephew used it for his 6.5 Swede Mauser though he sold that years ago. Closest rounds I have are 30-06 and 308win. Not sure what to do with powder if I can't use it.

Thanks for your assistance.

RL22 is a slow burning, magnum rifle type powder. I've used it in my 338 Win, but found it to be a little too slow in my 270.

Ji, Now's your chance! Go out and buy a 300 Win Mag! I've used even less of an excuse to buy a gun! (Just picked up a Rossi 92 357 mag cause I found four boxes of ammo in my stash)
This is plagiarized from someone else, but I love it!

I was born a gun owner.
It wasn't a choice.
I didn't become one later in life.
I was born this way.

...or a 6.5 Swedish Mauser one of my dream calibers. Any modern rifled chambered for this round? CZ maybe?
