Scoping a 9422?
I am considering scoping my 9422. This rifle has a bubba'ed stock so it will be refinished. I have already considered the sacrilage of scoping a nice lever and it is no concern for me fellows.
I have a Leupold 2.5X20 M8 Compact on the shelf. My preference is for a low mount and separate rings rather than a rail system. Anyone scoped a 9422? Any rings to be recommended or avoided? I'm most interested in rings that may be more prone to dovetail scarring than others.
The one problem I can foresee is the short dovetail length.
Note: I have a separate thread regarding a peep sight, both on the wish list!

A little compact would look good on the 9422. The only issue might be eye relief, you wont have much room for movement with a short scope and separate rings. A rail will allow more movement. The other option is a nice sleek 4x28 standard length scope which would allow more adjustment.
If scarring the dovetail is a concern then maybe aluminium rings would be your best option.

I did some tape and elastic band fitting and found out that 2.5X Compact has enough eye relief that the scope sits forward of the hammer. With my size and this scope this is quite surprising. I can go as low as I want on the rings and not worry about a hammer extension!

Re: Scoping a 9422?
My 9422 mag came used with an inexpensive scope on it.
The scope was invaluable in determining just how accurate the rifle could be with different ammo. I did a post on this shooting at an indoor range a few years back. Bottom line was that with Federal target ammo, it shot under one moa at 25 and 50 yards - most gratifying! Naturally, with different weight and velocity ammo, the POI and group size varied.
The scope is not pretty, but with it anyone can shoot the rifle accurately.

CRS n RHIMFIRE what nice pictures of longings of childhood. Wonder how guys wanted a 9422, but never bought one. I settled for a Henry 22Mag in '06.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres
