14 days without phone or internet (up date)

Post by gamekeeper »

I'm still waiting for BT (British Telecommunications) to repair my phone line after the storm damage on the 23rd Dec.
Until then I can only borrow a computer when visiting friends. My neighbors, who work from home, are also waiting for BT.
I hate to think what would happen to communications if we had a MAJOR catastrophic storm here....
Meanwhile, I'm making the most of all the FREE firewood that surrounds me.... :

Wow, hang tough GK. Glad you have plenty of wood to keep the chill off. Hoping you are restored to full commo capability soon.

Our son did a semester at Lancaster U. in 2010. The day he arrived they were having a snowstorm that literally shut down everything in the area. he called home and said he couldn't understand what the problem was as there was only a few inches on the ground.
Whadda you spect from a Maine hick.

Love my Novatel Wireless USB aircard! Kept me from sitting in WY due to icy roads and wind gusts in excess of 60mph!

One of my fondest memories of Texas -- spent a night at Chisos Mountain resort in Big Bend Nat. Park. Elevation maybe 5000 ft. up there and we got a skiff of snow overnight -- beautiful white stuff on the cactus next morning. And they (Nat Park Service) shut her down! Barricades on the roads so you wouldn't try to drive anywhere. For maybe 1/2" snow that melted through to pavement the moment you drove on it  . All in your point of view and what you are used to handling.

I think you have the best of all things there, game keeper -- plenty of firewood and no communications. Sounds mighty fine!

Hope you get restored to comms soon. That sounds frustrating.

I wonder if they will pro rate your next bill. Waiting over 2 weeks seems a bit long. Maybe BT will have a layoff to pay for the cost of repairs. lol

Something how we all "need" this internet garbage. I was perfectly happy before I got online back in '98.

Just curious Gamekeeper, how much does a cord of wood sell for in your parts? Here in the states, a cord of wood is 4'x4'x8' and usually runs $180-$225 in my part of Pennsylvania and that's all quality hardwood.----6

I never buy cordwood, I have enough trees where I live but the price varies a lot, $124 to $176 seems average.
Most folks buy logs already cut and the price of cut logs varies a heck of a lot, people new to log fires get ripped off with green wood, light loads and poor firewood.

Glad you got that free wood. That can be worth a lot when there is no other way of heating.
