New Rossi Rio Grande

Post by wvfarrier »

I picked this up a few days ago and it is really nice. The action is very smooth and the finish is even and dark. The wood is very soft and the finish was just sad. So I sanded it and added the minwax honey colored finish. Looks decent but not great. The magazine tube is way harder to load than my marlins. It shoots excellent. I put a nikon 3x32 on it and it only took 10 rds of my 405 LFN handloads to sight it in at 100 yards. Recoil is mild in this rifle. I am extremely pleased.

Nice rifle.

They're advertising 5.8 lb for those; does it feel that light? I wish they had a version with the standard lever loop.

Very nice. I'd buy a new Rio Grande over a new Remlin/Marlington any day of the week.

What makes it 'harder to load'...? It may be something 'we' can help you fix...

I love mine also in 45-70 though I've added a Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5x32mm scope to mine. The Smithshop makes a stainless magazine follower for it and Uncle Mikes hammer extension for the Winchester, Henry rifle works on it also. I might add it shoots great also.

It shoots great. The loading gate is super duper stiff

I would like to try one of them. I like my Rossi M92, and assume that the quality and functionality of the Rio Grande is equal. I don't really need one since I have my Guide Gun, but, need has long since been supplanted with want.

I took mine apart, remove the gate and did a little grinding on it careful to not over heat it, as per Nate's video. I got it close then put a dummy round in it about half way and let it sit for a few days. Now it is like my M92 45 Colt easy as it gets.
