Six Guns old 25-35
Been trying for a Antelope for a few weeks now, mostly the little buggers spotted me
way before I got in range of them, Guns of choice were 38-55 - 32 spl. & 25-35
found out the front sight on the 38-55 mostly covered a Antelope at 100 -150 yds.
so couldn't use that one, I missed a buck last night with the 32 spl. its a old src with
the express sight & it takes a very fine bead, I was not fine nuff & shot high
so tonight I took SixGuns fine old 25-35 out ( Did I ever say my lovely wife bought it for me?)
snuck up on a bunch of goats, and yep got spotted at around 150 yds. they mobbed up & was
ready to blast outta there when a doe stepped out a few yds. out of the herd & was safe to shoot
with out a pass through & hitting two, Have a tang sight on it & it looked good so pulled the trigger
well they took of at Antelope speed & soon I see one was down, The load was a good dose of
Hodgdons CFE 223 & a 75 gr. speer hot core, the bullet went in at the last rib & came out behind the shoulder doing more damage than I expected, The little bullet was tested in wet paper, sawdust
& water jugs & always came out real well
Thank you Ms. Boots & SixGun for a fine Gift

Now that adds a great paragraph to the Sixgun to Ms Boots to ollogger 25/35 story that we have been treated to on this forum. Congratulations on a fine shot with a grand rifle, ollogger.

That's impressive. What was the velocity. That gets me too wondering about 75gr .25cal bullets. Are they "tougher" than 87gr bullets. The HNDY 87gr SPP comes apart in a water jug test. the HNDY 75gr HP holds together and punches out the back side with a 1/2" or better exit hole. The 75gr is going faster than the 87gr. I have Sierra 75gr HP's that I haven't tried yet, wondering how they are going to expand? Any experience with them.? Did you have buck fever while waiting for a clear shot? 3leg
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

The only spitzer ive tried was a 87 gr. it shot good but didn't test them
The speer 75 gr. didn't hit bone but did tick the liver & paunch & blew a silver dollar size
hole in a lung & out the hide on the off side, so it went thru a lot of goo
No buck fever any more, been there to many times, I wish I could get a good jolt of it again
SixGun the wife said will have to try a pix of it
sorry no pix of the antelope, forgot camera, but it really did happen

when it was introduced speers 75 was advertised as a tough bullet, with nose expansion initially but designed to penetrate deeply. they meant it to be an improvement over the 87s being offered. it sure has been accurate for me, and can be used in the 25/20 as well, but will hold up to the higher velocities of the 25/35
of course, i have not had a chance to prove its effectiveness on game, and this is a real treat and confirmation to read about how well this did.!!'
good job.!!

Brad,
Just out of curiosity, do you feel the outcome would have been the same
if you'd have been using the factory Winchester 117 grain round?

Last year I made almost the same shot & angle on a good sized white tail buck
with a 117 gr. semi spitzer partion with the nose filed flat,it went in & out to
I would not hesitate to use a factory 117 gr on game.
a bud of mine has a old 25-35 & he shot a lot of Elk with it using Factory Win. & Rem Ammo
Deer & Antelope also

Had antelope jerky - might as well have been chewing on a radial tire.
