Advice needed on Lil'Gun and 32-20 load development.
I'd like to work up some loads in the Rem 25 and the 1913 Win 92 using Lil'Gun. Something in the 21,000 CUP range. According to the charts on http://www.leverguns.com/articles/paco/3220wcf.htm I can shoot for 1600 fps with a 115 grain jacketed and 1800 cast same weight. I'm specifically looking for top loads (22K CUP max) for the Hornady XTP 85 grain and the Speer 115 bullet for the 327 Federal.
I've read that Lil'Gun gets a bit funky in the 50% load density range and from my experience with the 357 and 360 DW it comes into its own around 75% and maxes around 85% before velocity begins to drop off.
Ideas and suggestions are hereby solicited.

Don't know about the little gun powder, but in have never been able to get the same kind of accuracy after 1400 fps. I'm talking about real accuracy, you know, inch at 50 and 2 at 100..... On a good day when I can see.
Seems like the groups double when I push it to the 15 or 16 level. Maybe a gun with a heavier barrel or a bolt gun like the Savage can do better, but with a Remington or a 92 win, the best I have been able to do is at 14.-----6

Like H110/W296 I think Lil'Gun is a max effort powder. Based on my experience with it I wouldn't use it for anything else. It should work in the .32-20, but we're talking loads that approach the .30 Carbine in performance.
That's just my 2 cents...

I don't know if this will help, but I use a Sierra 90gr JHP, on top of 9.5gr of 2400. Shoots fairly flat out to 100m.

I have shot 117 grain cast/GC with 12 grains Lil'Gun for 1850 fps. That's more like 90% load density and upper 20's for psi. Which should be fine in the 32/20. I didn't get much to brag about for accuracy in Browning lever. Maybe Sixgun is onto something.
Though I haven't yet tried that warm load in the Savage bolt I got from jdad.

Tycer, I have got my best 32wcf loads for my 1917 model 92 24 inch rifle with 2400 powder and the 85 grain XTP. 8.7 grains of 2400 will get me a 3 shot average of 1386 fps. It is a very accurate load for my old rifle. I really like 5744 powder too.

I'll have to try that. One fella likes 9.5 grains of 2400 under the Speer 115 327 Gold Dot.JerryB wrote:Tycer, I have got my best 32wcf loads for my 1917 model 92 24 inch rifle with 2400 powder and the 85 grain XTP. 8.7 grains of 2400 will get me a 3 shot average of 1386 fps. That sounds like a good one to try.
