old tow behind road grader ( pic heavy )

Post by 1894 »

I know I'm stretching a bit by posting this here because it is way OT  So I'm going with the " we discuss most thing here , politely " motto of this forum.
Trying to get a dollar value on this .
I'm looking at a York super workman tow behind grader / rake .
High tech equipment from maybe the '30's or 40's in working order.
Got a spring suspension floor for the operator to stand on. steering to off set the grader from the tow vehicle , and everything needed to grade / rake / and maintain a dirt road with. 8)
Looking for a fair price for both the seller and the buyer .
Any ballpark ideas ???

Worthless with out pics :

I couldn't guess at a value, but I remember when I was a very small child my Dad had one that I think was just like that. I remember Dad and my Uncle grading gravel roads/driveways with it. Neat old piece of equiptment.

I just saw one with steel wheels and no rock rake for 600$ would guess 1000-1500$ for that one but check all the gears wheels, looks to be in pretty good condition. some of the online antique machinery sites might give you a better idea. danny

It don't matter if its old as your York rake appears to be solid and will very still fill the needs of whoever needs it. I bet there's a bunch of Amish farmers who would take that off your hands.

I remember almost buying a small York rake about 20 years ago. It was little one about 1/10 the size of yours for IIRC $300. I'd say about a grand for yours sounds fair.-----6

A friend of mine has one that him and his neighbors bought (road association) a few years back. I helped him a couple of times grading their road, he would operate the grader while I tow it with my truck. The make and model escapes me but it's not as big and it doesn't have the York rake attached like the one your showing, I think they payed $500.00 give or take. Something like that in these parts will go easily $1500-$2500.

Thanks for the help !! It is also a very lucky grader , if the wind that snapped that pine tree was blowing just a quarter turn more north the trunk would have went right across the grader !

On the very few graders I've found for sale online they ranged from 800 for a lawn ornament ( if it could be moved with out falling apart ) to 2,500 for one that didn't have the tow bar .
I guess I'll start at 3K and accept offers down to 1,500 . If I can't find it a new home by this time next year I'll drop it to 1 K .

I think your grader is a fresno. My dad talked about building a fresno for use on the farm he worked on. The term fresno refers to a grader that was originally pulled with horses. Yours looks like it was built to be pulled with a tractor. Good looking piece of equipment!

This is the tag plate from the grader :

I think my asking price of 3k may be a little high , but I gotta start somewhere ,maybe 2,500 .
The parts for the scarifier <sp?> are not accessible as they are behind and under about 10 face cords of firewood
