I never give value to the scope sight when I buy. I have no idea what might be wrong with it and most have something wrong with them (IME). The rifles are asking and mostly getting in the $400-500 range around here.
Sincerely,

Hobie

I agree - except if the scope is a leupold/burris

As far as price - I would put it anywhere from $350 up - under $350 it is a very good deal that you should act upon

I always disregard a scope, and usually refuse to take one with a gun deal - as you never know what ills lie within.

The gun value depends upon what was done to the pre-AE to scope it, i.e. if/where it was D/T'd - and if it's a 1964-1971 model, or a post 1971 gun.

If it's a '64-70, I'd put $300 max on a nice one - $50/$100 less, if the side was D/T'd for a scope mount.

If it's a post-71, I'd go $450-500 on a nice one, maybe a little more for a special model like a Trapper - but, again, knock off $100 for a side D/T for scope mount.

It's an early AE.

Right around $400 in Mid Michigan (give as much as $25 - $35 for the sope unless it is something special like a Leopold or Weaver).

I have found that scopes do almost nothing for resale value while a set of receiver or tang sights add to resale value.

I don't even then. If the seller is set on a price for the Leupold he can keep it as far as I'm concerned and most do. Sure they have a lifetime warranty and honor it but it is still a USED scope.

I agree with Hobie on this one. Hopefully you get a good deal on the rifle, but don't do the deed because of the scope. Leupold does have a lifetime warranty, but It will cost a minimum of 100.00 for them to just look at it anymore. After all my blabbing it may not even be a Leupold.

I have a pre-safety AE on AuctionArms. I started it at $389.95 and it now has one bid on it.

Here's a link if anyone is interested in bidding on it.
