Some people swear by those 150gr HP, I'm not one of them.

That particular cartridge made the ugliest wound on a deer of any that I have seen with my own eyes.

Those 150 HP are the very reason I started using 170gr SP and PP and nothing else in my .30-30s.

Others may have had different and more positive experiences.

In 1975 when I started deer hunting my indian mentor in the sport advised me to use these. He said that they hit like a 30-06.I used them in a Marlin 336 for some 20 years quite successfully I might add and never had a deer run more than just a few yards with a proper hit.
They also WILL screw up a coyote's day very thoroughly.
I also have some for my .308 and they have been good although I do not use them much in that caliber.
To answer your question, yes they do work and work well.

They shot about as well as can be expected for factory ammo in a virtually untuned Marlin 30-30 . With that being said , my memory is telling me they shopt 3 in 1 1/2" at 100 yards (using a 3-9 scope in a Marlin 336XLR).

If I had my prefernce for NORMAL factory 30-30 ammo I'll always go with the Winchester 170 Silvertip followed by the Winchester 150 Silvertip .

The Hornady rubber tipped stuff is excellent but not what I consider ordinary . The Federal Hi Grade with the Nosler 170 Partition ain't bad either and seems to me PMC makes a factory load using the Barnes 150 bullet . I happen to like all three of those bullets although I've only tried the rubber tipped stuff in factory loads and only done the Nosler and Barnes in reloads .

In my pile of .30-30 ammo, I've got a very nice old box of Peters 160gr "Full Metal Cased" loads - yup, solids. Guess they were somewhat popular back in the 30s & 40s. They have the "PETERS" headstamp.

I use Barnes TSXs and they are hollow points. One word, devastating. :)

They still showed in the catalogs into the 60's.

I'd like to have a couple boxes. Seems like they'd be good penetrators on large critters. I'm curious how they hold up on large skulls or heavy bones.
