OT - BBQ Cleaner - quick 'n' easy

Post by JohndeFresno »

OK, it's Barbecue season (although I barbecue year 'round!).

My first nomination for the quickest, easiest way to degrease the grille (at least with my propane BBQ):

1) Place aluminum foil, shiny side down, on grille.
2) Be sure to have some hot pads on hand to turn off grille - controls get hot!
3) Close lid, turn on BBQ full force for 15 minutes or less
4) If the flames look menacing from around the grille, turn it off.

This method cleans as good as putting the grille in a self-cleaning oven.

Oh, and... don't take a shower while the grille is cleaning itself or your wife might come running in while you have soap in your eyes and drag you out to the back yard, buck naked, because the grille looks like it's on fire.

Same with coffee pots/percolators, is it not...?

Only girly men use gas grills. Real men use charcoal.
P.S. We have a double grill that is charcoal on one side and gas on the other. That's what my wife wanted and she paid for it -so? So far I have only used the charcoal side. God Bless.

Ain't it the truth, brother.

The 10-foot high fireball with the ensuing pall of black smoke as
the hydrocarbon-soaked bricquets ignited was ALWAYS the
highlight of supper on a summer weekend!! :o

She wanted a gas grill as a replacement, though, and can now sear
the flesh all by herself if she has a mind to.......

Washing a (seasoned) cast iron skillet has got to rank as one of the most serious crimes there is.

Hmmmph!

OK - you asked for it!

1) I barbecue about once a week, 52 weeks a year.

2) Gave up briquettes when I discovered I could make perfect steaks in 20 minutes or less (depending upon the cut), start to finish. Tri-tips take exactly 41 minutes. No waiting for perfect glow on the coals, no bags to tote, no lighting stuff, no cleanup. And I don't like to wait to eat!

3) One propane can lasts about 6 months if only two are eating.

4) If I want a big flareup, I invite my guests to stand next to the cooker, turn on the gas for a few seconds, THEN light it - gets the ol' singed eyebrow thing goin' pretty good!

5) I use two settings - one to sear the meat, then I lower the heat. Let's see you make a perfect medium rare steak like this one every time with charcoal -

(It's a quick snapshot 'cause I didn't want to wait to eat the steak tonight.)

By the way, a real man has roasted jalapenos with his steak!

I use fat Jalapenos, Ancho chilis, and other uncut vegetables. If they are small (like Serrano chiles), I wrap them in tin foil with a few drops of water to steam them. A day without chilis is like a month without sunshine!

The beans that you see on the plate are cold, not barbecued; a bean salad: Red kidney beans, green beans and garbanzo beans (all rinsed), with chopped red and green onion; mixed in with salt, pepper; sprinkled and mixed with rice vinegar and extra virgin olive oil. And, of course, a separate green salad with romaine, some goat cheese chunks, a few pine nuts, some artichoke hearts, Balsamic vinegar / extra virgin olive oil dressing.
