Browning BL-22
Are the BL-22s all steel? Any aluminum, such as receiver or barrel bands? I have a chance to pick one up (cheap) that some goob has removed most of the finish with very coarse sandpaper, including the stock.
I only got to handle it for a few minutes outside in poor light, the barrel bands looked like they might be aluminum. Anyone know?

Barrel bands on Mine R Alum. Everything else seems to be steel.

Thanks, I think that I will get it. Since it's mostly steel, it will be easier to refinish; I've never done an aluminum receiver and wasn't looking forward to doing one. I guess I can just polish the scratches out and paint/coat the barrel bands.

You can anodize the aluminum and I suspect something like Duracoat would work as well.

Way out here in the country, anodizing isn't really an option. I was thinking some sort of duracoat type finish, something that I can do myself.

Birchwood-Casey has a product called Aluma-Black that works well on small parts.

Have you tried it? Is it applied like cold blue liquid or paste?

Re: Browning BL-22
Many summers ago I had a Marlin Glenfield Mdl 60 .22 auto. Some dufas had engraved his SocSecNo in the flat left side of the receiver. I carefully sanded this out, then painted the receiver with flat black enamel paint. Not the Krylon lacquer, but actual enamel. After it started to dry I put it in the oven for couple hours at IIRC 150º. That paint never chipped, never showed any tendency to dissolve with the Hoppe's I used to clean the rifle with, and it actually looked like a factory finish.
That would be my suggestion for the aluminum parts.

Thanks Joe, did it come out flat or sort of a satin finish?
