Hey I'm just trying to come up with some recoil energy figures here, can you tell me what the gun weighs and how many grains of powder its gonna take to get that 420 gr up to 1600fps

That Mountie ain't much bigger than your holster. I got to shoot a 45-70 BFR several years ago. Surprisingly accurate and the owner bought it exclusively for pig hunting.

According to the Magnum Research Website, it should weigh around 4.7lbs.
Using that figure in my recoil calculator, it shows about 44ft/lbs. A Marlin Guide gun with that load has a recoil factor of about 29ft/lbs of recoil.
A buddy's S&W 500 with near fullhouse loads is rather civilized to fire...robust, to be sure, but not painful and controlable to a high degree. A Contender with the 45-70 bbl is also not too much.....I don't expect to have much problem, I hope, with this one......

I think this will be easier than Bear's contender, and it's easy..,
Can you get a concealed carry permit for it and holster it down yer trouser leg.
Go ahead punk, make my day
But seriously its a nice looking piece and I hope you have a ton of fun with it.

Ya know I look at that monstrous piece of stainless steel and think there's no way I'd shoot a 45/70 round out of a pistol. But then I have a Freedom Arms 83 in 454 Casull, that's on par with the BFR in 45/70 and I shoot it. I guess it's just looking at the size of the cylinder and knowing the size of the cartridge that gives me pause.

Yahoo let's light that sucker up.
You first.
I can assure you that your .454 with fullhouse loads kick a bunch more than the BFR with moderately stiff loads.
