Nice ... would be a thumper in .358 Win. Notice what they did with the wood around the upper tang.

same here.

I can't see spending $7k on a gun that I'm afraid to shoot or hunt with. Is it meant to be a collector's piece/investment?

More of a bragging show piece, I can't see a collector's piece. Although it's a beautiful rifle the cost makes it not practical for all but folks with lots more money than they have needs. The only gun in the world I'd spend that kind of bucks on, if I had it to spend, would be a .375 or .416 Holland & Holland double.

Yep, maybe - but there's scant few that COULD, and even fewer who could have theirs come out looking half as nice.

Don't lose sight of the fact that they are CUSTOM RIFLES - long inhabitanting the area of rarified air, and generally only available to those folks with LOTS of discretionary income.

Custom stockwork on very high grade wood, custom barrel work on custom barrels, everything hand fitted is not to be had via any other methods today - certainly not from the likes of Winchester, Rossi, or even Miroku, as nice as some of the work may be.

It reminds me of the fine Rogue River Custom Winchester Model 88's in .358 of 20 years ago - which were $3500 THEN.

AND, it looks like they're about half the cost of what a comparable Turnbull job would run.

There's no need to discount the Empire Rifles, and others like them, because they're expensive - just enjoy & drool over them.

I am not discounting Empire rifles. But I do own, and have owned a few custom rifles. And I have an idea of what it costs to get things done. And no doubt custom work is expensive. I was only saying that I do not think there is $7,000 worth of custom work there. I read what they did to the old action. And the wood is nice, but it is far from the best grades available.

Being generous on my prices:

The stock: $2,000(very generous)
Used action: $500
New barrel: $300
Machining work on action: $600
High polish bluing: $300

Total: $3,700 So what have I missed?? I did not see any metal engraving?? Tom.

If I had the scratch, no big deal. I'd probaby be able to afford several more like it.

I figure that at least one of 'em has to go out and get a bump or bruise just to show it off.

If I bought it but couldn't really afford it, or if it was the centerpiece of my collection, it would never leave the most heavily most padded corner of my gun safe except on my birthday and the 4th of July.

Lordy!! That is NICE. And like a feller said, custom rifles have always occupied a rarefied strata that we mere mortals cannot reach - nothing new there.
