Pre 81 BLR price?

Post by geobru »

There have been threads in the past that talk about the high prices of the BLR's, but I have a line on one that has been butchered, but is restorable. It is a 1976, Japan, 308 caliber. The bluing is still in pretty good shape (90%), bore is bright. The negatives: 1 1/2 inch is cut off the buttstock, recoil pad looks like a beaver chewed on it to size it down, no rear sight, front sight is not original. What is a gun like this worth? I can get it and a box of Hornady interbonds for 3 C notes OTD. What do you guys think?

Sounds OK. Rifles here are going for 400 to 500 in good shape. I wonder how much a replacement stock would set you back? I had one when they first came out. Shot very well, but I had some ejection issues, it seemed as if the ejection port was a little small and the cases would hang up.

A new stock is $125, so that would be $425 and it would be ready for a scope. It's helpful to know what they are actually selling for in your neck of the woods.. Thanks.

Magazines are running upwards of $200 unless you are lucky.
Kind regards,

As already stated, the stock, pad, and sights will set you back around $200 plus and probably plus is more correct. If there is anything else wrong, such as the magazine, you are really going to get hurt. If everything was correct, it would be a steal. However, you are looking at just being on the border line of "better to pass".

The BLR is a rifle that does not lend itself well to reconstruction. It is one of those that replacement parts and add ons are not readily available, especially from other than OEM suppliers. I am a BLR addict and to be honest, I would pass and spend a little more on a complete one.

If you want a truck gun, go for it and live with the changes.
