At least the kid had better luck than another kid had a vew years ago. That kid got suspended (and IIRC taken in by police) for bringing a one inch long plastic pistol to school.

Exactly. They are basically saying that the school administrators aren't smart enough to make their own decisions so we will relieve them of the burden. It provides cover for the school administrators such that they no longer have to think. In this case though, the administrator pulled the kid into the office and probably had him sign some sort of confession as was referred to in the article as a "they made me sign a statement". Can you imagine ... a fourth grader in the face of an adult, the principle, being forced to sign a statement without a parent, guardian, or attorney present. The administrator will flee for the legal cover of the School District.

Naturally, this was because of White Man keeping his foot on their necks and being racist. It was either that, or let the minority kids off the hook for really serious crimes in the school. You'll notice this goes hand in hand with outcome based graduation rates: Kids that have no business moving on to the next class, but are passed anyway to avoid "problems" of race baiters.

Bingo! Certainly not common (or even existant in small quantities) among the hoplophobes and/or the left.

My son purchased a bunch of these off a site called "Brick Arms" for his LEGO's years ago. Some are pretty darn details, such as their WWII weapon pack. Cool little toys, but how anyone could possibly wig out over these is beyond stupidity and well into the absurd!

Now, that being said, I don't think kids should take toys to school period. Focus should be on real education...

Personally I'd be upset over my kid being told to put it away too. If one of my daughters want's to play with a 2" toy gun (or a full size one for that matter) in school, good for them, leave em the heck alone. Fear of guns by the sheep in the general public has gone way over board.

It's socialism. Govern the few by making laws that oppress the many.

I work in "the system" at an elementary school, and you are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! Except I won't use the word, "minority". The hispanic kids in our school are some of the best behaved and most respectful students we have. It's the blacks that are such a problem. The only common sense in our system is at the teacher and teacher's aide level. Above them are nothing but idiots and cowards. Our district has a "Zero Tolerance" policy for bullying, but it's a joke! My son is being bullied regularly by some black students. The teacher has done all she can do. The problem is that the administrators who make the big bucks are afraid of confronting the bullies' parents. The sad thing is that there's nothing I can do about it without getting arrested and/or losing my job.

There are two things that regularly replace "common sense": Greed and Cowardice.

A few years ago, a student in our school was suspended for bringing a "gun" to school. It was one of those cheap 3" long bright orange plastic squirt guns you can get at the local dollar store.

I can remember Coach Jones borrowing a student's shotgun to kill a snake on campus.

When I was in school, a very long time ago, Dad always told me to own up to what I did, but if the punishment seemed unreasonable, very unlikely, that I could always call him before they whacked my butt. I told my kids the same thing. I only used that option one time, a real jerk of a teacher and Dad informed him that should he whip me there'd be another butt whupping handed out immediately following. I didn't get whipped. BTW, Dad's actions would be a felony in my state now.

My oldest is 25 now and when he was in school a written permission to discipline, paddle, had to be signed by the parent before it was done. The grade school principal, the same one I had that whipped a whole classroom full of boys twice because he didn't know who committed whatever he was mad about, told me he could whip my child without my permission anytime he so desired. Now, I always supported the principals or teachers right to paddle my kids when needed, I just believe that I have the final decision on that issue every time, so when he told me that my neck got a little red. He was informed that should that ever occur he'd be in jail for battery before the sun set. He thought that was funny...until he got the letter from the District Attorney a couple of days later explaining the facts of the real world, which is not the one that most teachers live in, to him. I never had another problem with him and he probably paddled my boy five or six time after that, with my permission before it happened.

Boy, you would have thought she shot the teacher they way they acted When they called and wanted me to "do something" all I could do was laugh and strongly imply that the staff were acting like morons and all I was going to do was take her out to dinner to celebrate the fact that she wasn't hurt on the school's CLEARLY hazardous facilities It got dropped PDQ and I rolled my eyes at Daughter a couple times, but Judas Priest, kids will be kids
