I found these old printers blocks awhile back. They are the most difficult to find, a Winchester 1873 SRC and a engraved Colt SAA 7 1/2 inch barrel. The measurements are 5 inches by 2 1/4 inches. I thought y'all might like to see them.
Like I said, they are hard to find. In my 40 years of collecting this is the first I have seen. You know there must be many around because of the printing of catalogs and advertisements in the old days, but try and find them. Not so easy. I would think a engraved Colt 7 1/2 SAA and a Winchester 1873 SRC are at the top of the list of desirability. I know they are in my case.
Very interesting printer's blocks. i have found many over the years, but most pertained to glass container labels and trade cards.
I looked at about 20+ 1873 carbines yesterday at Reno. At today's asking prices, not many moved. I saw some 99% ones and some less than 10% ones. The price varied from $1250 to $14K. It appears to me that many of the same guns that haven't sold previously were marked up another 25-40% for this year's WACA show. It'll get worse as time goes on. The real clunkers that I wouldn't even touch were priced at over a G. My comments to some folks were not appreciated. They have to understand that not every example of a much desired gun is "golden".
