OT- great studio old photo!

Post by rangerider7 »

I can't tell what the badge is for on his hat and chest but he is not wearing spurs with chap guards because the legs are almost to the floor. All the apparel seems to be new or like new but great shot. IMHO

He looks like he worked for Buffalo Bill's Wild West, or wanted too.

I've wanted to get hold of (collect) old photos since I saw a pic of my grandad. He was sitting on the top rail of a corral taking a break from breaking horses, or so the story goes, and he was an honest-to-God cowboy. Rangerider, where do you find all these old photos?

mikld, from other collectors mostly, but this one is for sell on EBay. It is starting at $99.99. I don't think it will end up at that price.

That 'cowboy's" chaps ain't never been on a horse, fer sure & fer certain...

The rest of his outfit looks like it just came off the shelf, as well.

Great lookin' saddle, though. Wish I had one just like it...

Prob'ly couldn't catch cold with that limp twine...

The 'medal' he's wearin'... ? Who knows.
Regards

Buck

Nice pic, Rangerider. I have a pair of shotguns just like his and I'm with Buck, I'd love to have that saddle. Cantle might be a little high, but it sure looks like a good'un.

Just been looking through "Buffalo Bill's Wild West an American legend" by R.L.Wilson & Greg Martin. On page 58 there is a picture of The Buffalo Bill's Wild West Band and they look like they are wearing identical brand new chaps, shirts and hats. Now I know the photo's ain't in color and that sort of gear was very common back then but Buffalo Bill did give out medals and badges from time to time to his performers.
Maybe the saddle and rope are just props as he didn't want his photo taken with a piccolo.

Just a thought!

Many studios kept props on hand so folks could get their picture posing as whatever they wanted to be.

I ride a high cantle deep seat and much prefer it in a long day to a Cheyenne roll. That being said , if the saddle fits you'll get along w/ or w/o other options and never think about it

Yup. That high cantle (5 1/2 - 6" in many cases...) can sure be a relief when you spend all day in the saddle. The combination of slick-fork/narrow-seat helps a bunch as well.

Have to admit I never was much of a fan of nickel horns, though. Those are for the hard-and-fast boys; NOT good at all for dally ropers.
