Peep sights on .22 Lever
Hi All,
I was wondering what the typical range would be on a .22 lever w/ peep sights.

Re: Peep sights on .22 Lever
Typical? Well, when I was out in the boonies of AZ I was shooting my open sighted 9422 from up close to well past a hundred yards. And hitting most of what I was aiming at. So with peep sights I'd add a bit.
Peep sights don't make a rifle more accurate, they just help the shooter aim more accurately.

The Williams FPGR that attaches to the tip-off scope groves in my Browning BL22 does a good job on the 100 yard range -
I've subsequently corrected the level of the sight.

I was hitting a 4' tall propane cylinder at a lasered 140 yds with my marlin 39 centennial. All over it, but a person would not have wanted to replace the tank.

Re: Peep sights on .22 Lever
My Marlin 39A wears a Marbles tang sight with an adjustable Merit eyepiece and a Lyman 17A front sight with a Lee Shaver fine post insert. I use it mostly for smallbore cowboy lever action silhouette, so typical for me is 100 meters or less.
At the tallest setting for the rear sight, it is spot on at 200 meters. Last year I managed to kill a ground squirrel sitting on top of one of the 200 meter target supports at the range, but it took me 3 tries!

My 39A has a Foolproof on it. I can easily put a round onto a spot the size of a golf ball offhand at 25 yards. A rested shot at 50 yards will do the same thing.

Re: Peep sights on .22 Lever
Almost all my old Marlin .22 levers have tang sights, and depending on the target size they are very accurate. At 50 yds. they will group around 1"-1 1/2".

I too prefer tang sights for target use.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.
Re: Peep sights on .22 Lever
I like the target style receiver sight. I also like the twilight peep, with a taller white front bead. 100 yard shots are not a problem. I do not shoot past 100 yards with my 22. Not that it will not do it, I just don't do it. Tom.

That is a Marbles M3S. The "S" stood for "special"....no joke, it really does. Tang sights that went back up the comb had the "S" designation.kimwcook wrote:jdad, what type of tang sight is the one on your first picture.
Marbles also made one for the Savage 22 Sporter. It was labeled S3S. It was a factory option that had to be mounted into the wrist of the stock, with wood screws. Oddly enough this has the same hole spacing as the Marlin
