Uberti, and other Italian gun parts - VTI

Post by J Miller »

For those who already knew this, why didn't you tell the rest of us?
For those who didn't know it, now you do.

I just had an interesting conversation with Lisa at VTI gun parts. We were discussing my old Uberti made Iver Johnson's imported Cattleman and when I told her about the gunsmith who rebuilt IJ telling me it needed an over sized base pin she knew all about it. Told me some of the earliest models of Ubertis did need a .255" base pin.

She went on to tell me that she had been the manager of Uberti USA until Beretta bought them out, and that VTI was an offshoot of Uberti USA. She said they decided to just do parts. And boy do they have parts.
In addition to the parts listed on their web site, they also have after market sources for some of the no longer available Uberti parts. Such as the over sized base pins for the older ones.

So, for those here that have Uberti made rifles and hand guns and:
IAB (Pedretti ) Sharps
Armi San Marco
Beretta
Pedersoli
Pietta
Armi Sport (Chiappa)

here is a good source of parts for your guns.

VTI Gun Parts
PO Box 509
Lakeville, CT 06039

Telephone: (860) 435-8068
Web site: http://www.vtigunparts.com/

If you do call them, I'd suggest asking for Lisa. She's more up on the parts than some of the guys I've talked to.

Note: I am not connected to this company in any way shape nor form. I just spend money there.

I've bought parts from them for years -- never kept it a secret! They are good folks to deal with.

Thanks for the link and info Joe! I too need a pin for a very old Uberti SAA clone. Mine is unmarked for the maker or distributor. Just the serial numbers and no other markings. Also has the early adjustable rear sight. Starting to get some cylinder side-slop, but still shoots accurately.

Sorry, Joe... thought you knew all about them. I've been posting links to questions about Uberti, Pedersoli, ASM and Pietta parts for at least a couple of years. That Lisa gal is great, easy on the eyes also.... :P

Vall,
There will be proofmarks on the gun. Those will ID the maker and year of manufacturer. I have a proofmark book and a print out someone posted here not long ago giving the makers marks and the Uberti date codes.
If you want to take some clear pics of the proof marks I'll try to ID them for you.

Or, if who ever sent me or posted the two page article "Modern Black Powder Proofmarks" by Dennis Adler would post it again that would help.

Griff, you do get to all the interesting places don't you? I knew of VTI but not it's history or about Lisa.

mm93, have you taken off the ejector rod housing, sometimes there's more info rollmarked under there.

The first link Griff posted is the page I was referring to above. I know where I bookmarked it this time.

The proof mark for smokeless powder are the letters "PSF" under the star and riflings rather than "PF".

IJ's Proof Marks:

The same smokeless powder and Gardone proof marks are found on the cylinder, but they are so faint you need a magnifying glass to read them.

Sorry, I only met her once about 1986 in EMFs offices and a couple of times back in the '90s at a couple of ShotShows.

AJMD,

For my lever guns, I have a complete set of screws, springs, extractor, and firing pin. I have other pieces too, but for spares that's about all I keep.
