OT, no it isn't: It's too d@*% cold for me

Post by J Miller »

I was considering going to the outdoor range today. I still haven't had a chance to shoot any rifles.

Then I decided that I needed to do a bit of work on my Pathfinder. The alarm switch under the hood broke so that needed replaced, and the fan clutch needed replaced and I needed to tighten up the fan belts. So, I did that.

I about froze my patutie off.

I checked the weather and they said 30° with 20 mph wind. Screw the outdoor range. I'll go to the indoor range tomorrow.

I hope it warms up a bit before next April.

Cold? Come on up to central N.H. It is a balmy 19 degrees right now. I made chicken soup for dinner. The boys were hungry. They had a basketball game this evening. After dinner we went outside for a fire in the pit. I had some "nectar" with the radio playing. That fire was the cat's meow. It was almost like being up at hunting camp. I darned near brought my 86 outside just to cradle her. Now that is livin". Hope you had a fire too. 1886.

On a Christmas Day we were mushing our way over the
Dawson Trail.
Talk of your cold! Through the parka's fold it stabbed like a
driven nail.
If our eyes we'd close, then the lashes froze till sometimes we
couldn't see;
It wasn't much fun, but the only one to whimper was
Sam McGee.

Huh...

I was out on the back porch dissecting deer today. I think the temp hit 35 at some point.

Not sure though. My jacket was in the house.

Sissies! Ambient is single digits, wind chill -12F. Just saw a news report of a dog froze to the ground because he was left out for a few hours. 'Course the Sheriff is going to take the dog's owners to the "dog" pound for being cruel. Hope it is outside!

Today would definitely have been an indoor range day. Then again, I complain when it goes below 50 degrees. I like it warm. When it's warm there's less chance of having to scrape ice or snow off of your windshield in the morning.

Just remember Captain Ahab in Herman Melville's Moby Dick." I keep my face to the wind to appreciate the warmth of my back."

Right now we have about one inch of snow on the ground from last night. I was raking leaves at my parent's home with Mary yesterday. She helped my mom with Christmas stuff while I did the bull work in the yard. It was in the low 30's F with a good windchill to make it feel like it was 20 F or so. Had to get it done before the snow covered the pine needles and kill the lawn even further than what has happened so far .

Bruce,

I imagine living on the top of Mount Kosciuszko in July. That is pretty much everyday for some of us in our winter.

It's -8 this morning. Can you say HOCKEY ! Both kids have games this afternoon , indoors of course
With the snowstorm yesterday and calm air this morning it would be a good morning to call some coyotes. But I need to get the snowplow on the truck before Hockey. No shooting today.

We got about 16-18 inches of snow yesterday, shoveled the drive 3 times. However,
the place where I normally shoot is owned by a fellow who is into shooting as much
as anybody I know and keeps the shooting lanes plowed all winter long, excepting the
300 yard lane and with what I'm shooting that's alright. I should also add that the shack
from where the shooting is done is semi-heated, about 40-50 degrees. :D
I spent the majority of yesterday watching the snow fly and reloading 30-30 and
38-55 ammo.

I actually prefer this time of year over the stifling heat of summer. The snow is just a
bonus. It goes with the territory here and I cannot imagine living anywhere else.
I could work anywhere in the country with my profession and choose to stay in the
great white north, how crazy is that? :?:

Regards,
I didn't fail the test, I just found 100 ways to do it wrong.
