OT: A pair of T-Giving Day Birds

Post by 86er »

RKrodle and I have been scouting a farm pond for several weeks. We thought we had the ducks pegged. Today we met at 5AM, waddled under some barbed wire while bundled like the Michelin Man, and set out some decoys. Our scouting paid off to some extent. We had the right pond and the right spot where the ducks would wade and loaf. However, we were on the wrong side to get incoming shots. Our decoys paid off by bringing a few birds within range of us. We scratched down this pair of Gadwall and sent Maggie (my chocolate lab) and Brittney (Ricky's black lab) to do the retrieving. Ricky's gun did have a top lever (mine didn't  ). My serious duck guns must meet three requirements: Boom, Boom Boom. Overall, a nice morning and success at my first duck hunt in TX. Happy Thanksgiving to All!

Congrats 86er and RKrodle!

And thus we were introduced to the tradition of Chinese Turkey.

Excellent! I haven't shot as of yet. We just set out our deeks last Sunday afternoon. The darned weather is too good to hunt, though. Still in the 60s.

WOW Excellent post, I love to eat duck especially the crispy skin Chinese style roast duck we have here in the island but waterfowl hunting is one form of hunting I have never tried due to no waterfowl hunting allowed in the islands. I have shot a ton of doves, pheasants, francolins, and chukars, but no waterfowls. I especially wanted to try goose hunting. I have always wanted to get a Chicom 1887 Winchester lever shotgun clone and have a 28" vent rib barrel with choke tubes added as a upland game gun, I can dream can't I. Joe I LOVE your chocolate lab, a female chocolate lab being my dream dog. Congrats to you both Joe & Ricky, I hope I can one day hunt with you both again, the last time was an honor and a privilege.
