Grandson with my 1894 Marlin=work

Post by JDL »

Early this morning my 13 year old Grandson killed his first deer, a 6 point buck. He was with his Dad and his 8 year old brother was with me. He made a killing shot with my 1894 Marlin .44 that I had loaded with my cast 431244 air cooled wheelweight bullet and 19 grains of WC-820 for about 1538 fps. Total penetration and the deer ran about 50 yards his dad said. Guess who got to dress the deer? His favorite grandpaw!! Happy Thanksgiving to all and God Bless!

Awesome news, Gramps!

Better be getting yourself a new .44 Marlin, sounds like your 'old' one is taken!

Gosh it worked! :D The entrance shot was at the second rib from the back which nicked the 3 rib and exited just behind the right shoulder. Yeah, major wreckage of the lungs! Nice little carbine, I really hated to loose it.

JDL, since you gave it to your grandson, did you really "lose" it?

Nice buck! I can see why you're proud. That gun, and your grandson, have a lot of deer hunting ahead of them! Congrats!

Great photo, tell your grandson congratulations! This stuff is absolutely priceless! Tell him he's been shown how, now the next one he gets to field dress.
