Not so good a picture this time.

Post by Nath »

I had a date with a fox I missed a couple of weeks ago and after having to fiddle with my trapper last weekend I was keen to get justice.
I waited in the half light for the pheasants to come off roost and with in a short time he was at them.
He was staying in the tree line though so I put my gloves on and mask and snook in slowly.
The cock birds were cocking up alot but Iknew I was getting close when I could hear the hen birds squeaking, the hen birds are a more dead cert when they are alarmed.
When I did see him mingling with the birds in a mature thuja plantation I could not get the shot so had to move closer at which point a hen flew from me which made the fox check my zone out, he was looking straight at me through some brush but as I anticipated it as the bird flew I had the gun on him.
The Speer 150 made it through the thuja sticks and hit him smack between the eyes, pretty painless for him.
The distance was 25yds (ish). You can see how his belly is full and if I had time I would of unzipped him to see what he'd been eating but really I allready know.
The early morning light was great but the cam went to flash and for some reason is blurry, it was a rush picture because I could hear another fox and was keen to check it out but never did see it.
A good morning, after I got some walking in checking my haunts out, I saw loads of squirl so a 9422 session or two is on the cards :D
A mild morning with a light wind and with a pink atmosphere as the sun rose beneath the clouds that would later produce rain in Wales whilst out on the Buell
Any way it looks like the 94 is back on line :D

Well done Nath! I wish we had the fox numbers around here that you do. I would have a blast chasing them little boogers. They would make a neat mount too.

Very good story Nath. I'll just have to add that I look forward to seeing post from you and Gamekeeper too, always interesting.

Good shootin' Nath. I'm getting jealous, I'm living in the middle of 1800+ acres and can't shoot any of it till the Pheasant season ends.
Me and gamekeeper Jr are reduced to only shootin' what we can see from the front door.

Good shooting. What do you do with the pelts? I'd have them tanned or try to tan them myself and make some hats. I have a big fluffy coyote fur hat that I wear when it gets cold in December and January. You would be surprised at the positive compliments that I have obtained.

Thanks guys,
The pheasant season over here is 1st of October to the 1st of Feb.
Any chance you could put some dead stuff in view of your door GK? Thats how I got those town fox over my back hedge!
Big bore, I ain't got a set up good enough to work pelts but I sure would like a hat.

I don't know how many I and others have had since being on here, I just see them as a pest and there is no shortage. Allthough a pest a worthy one, cunning and smart, a challenge.

As Nath says, the season starts on 1st Oct. and finishes on the 1st Feb. Most estates start pheasant shooting at the end of Oct. or early Nov. as the young birds are not always strong fliers in early Oct.
Nath,
Yep, I do lay a bit of bait from time to time, I even put acorns out for the jays.

Do you save the pelts Nath? Seems like you'd have enough for just about anything you'd want to do with them!
