Talked to Marlin several days ago, and they advised me that they are moving plant operations at this time, and no real place at Marlin to send the rifle to. So, they had me send it one of their Marlin repair gunshops, the one at Paducah Shooters Supply in KY. So, sent it off yesterday and I'll wait to hear what his verdict is.

Big suprise, Marlin says it was the ammo, but will fix the gun for free(new bolt). I told them they had better be sure that the headspace is not an issue when they send that gun back to me. I sent the ammo off to Winchester last week for testing(the whole brick), and still waiting to hear back. The numbers I had posted earlier are the fake lot numbers for the ammo...don't know why they even have those numbers on there. The "real" lot numbers are stamped, not printed, on the inside of the box flap. Only problem was the stamping machine that day wasn't stamping right so the numbers are in question.

And the final verdict is: ammo. They did not find any overloads at Olin in my brick of ammo, but the lot was on recall for overloads so that is the most likely scenario. They are sending me 1000 rounds of 22 to replace my brick. Marlin found that the gun was not at fault, and it came back better than new....new bolt, very tight and slick and trigger pull is much nicer. Shoots good with no ejection problems and they even redid the weak gold leaf on the logo. I am very happy with how Marlin treated me....they made multiple calls to keep me informed and everything happened as they said it would. Overall, I'm happy that my boy came out with no serious injuries and the companies seemed to do their best to make it right. I should have pushed for a pallet of free Win. 22 rounds in hindsight, though.

Thank you guys! It means alot. Yeah, I've been one to not worry about this all. In fact, I had kids shooting a few weeks before with no glasses on(just got sloppy...too much going on). Thankfully, we did not keep shooting that day as this round was coming up. For the range trip where this gun blew a few weeks later, I "knew" I had to have them that day, and I had Jay's admonition nagging at me. No doubt, the gouge in my sons shooting glasses looks deep enough to be birdshot from 20 yards....I have no doubt that we would have been in surgery that day had he not had his glasses on, possibly with dimished or lost sight. It only takes one round and even 22's will easily take your eyesight if your not wearing eye protection. I think I would give up shooting if I had let that happen to my son. Stay safe out there fellas, and God Bless.

My work here is done. Chris, with your help, we've made some converts to safety!

Marlin's customer service is simply top-notch. Glad it hasn't changed!
Thank you Jay! Do I need to snatch the pebble from your hand and walk on rice paper now? Long as I don't have to do the red hot cauldron thing. You are the best my friend.

Shooting glasses are just like seat belts, if you ever need them, they'll make you a believer. Years ago I had a primer pierce and blow back three pieces of steel into my pupil. I sure wish I'd have had those glasses. My vision is fine now, but things were rough for awhile and I was very lucky.

Glad you came out of that OK JB. I lost the sight in my right eye in an accident in the Military, when I took my glasses off for a brief few minutes, and know how scary all that can be. Army Doctor said "That's why God gave you two" but I do wish I had it back. Simple things can have great consequences.
