OK,

I am back home. Rolled in the driveway just after 4:00 PM. = Update.

They did not do any surgery per sae. The did mostly a needle biopsy. Then They upgraded my meds to Percoset. Ahhhhhh, some releaf finally.

More tests, more anti-bios, more confirmation. IT IS E-COLI. They've found it in my blood, urine, muscles, and elsewhere.
They tried to manipulate me into the MRI machine again, not a chance in hades.

Then they said they'd putting a PIC, PICT (?) in so they could do an intravenous injection of the Anti-Bios, once a day for 4 weeks. I can't do it myself, so we'll let the out patient department do it. I just got to get there.

I'm hurting but things should turn around soon.

I'm pretty much convinced that had we not gotten me to the ER this last time, would have been dead.

Danny, Thanks for the encouragement. Of course the MDs say nothing about what the anitbiotics do to your body and I was thinking of it.

Could you PM me some data on these Pro-Botics? All help is appreciated.

Joe antibiotics kill the flora in your gut you have to replace it to properly utilize the food you intake so go to a health food store and look for a live culture probiotics it will be in the cooler section to keep it alive take as directed the more live bacteria in each capsule the better if you like yogurt have that too as for name brands Walgreen's carry some good products. danny

Joe,

I'm glad they determined the problem. Now take the meds, rest and heal. From personal experience I would suggest you keep a log of medications taken.
When I helped with my wife's home care I would have been lost without having a black & white record of medication taken, times and amounts. Really helps when there are many prescription bottles.

Might be best to alternate between several probiotics like Kiefer, Activia, and so on, just to get the most variety of bacteria restored to your GI tract.

Don't fear, "ANTIbiotics" and "PRObiotics" are ok to mix - the former kills bacteria wherever the blood takes it, including your GI tract, where you need them. Probiotics just replace some beneficial bacteria into the GI tract so it doesn't get too messed up.

Steelbanger,

Thanks for the suggestion. I do keep a medical log but now have to update and keep it updated.

AJMD,

Thanks for clarifying that. I always wondered how it was with those two things.

Joe, a good probiotic is Lactinex. It is kept refrigerated and you may have to ask at the Pharmacy cash register for it. It has been around about 50 years and all the wannabes are rather new, but can also be useful. Lactinex is the one that has never failed when I suggest it. My old Family Doctor had people using it before the idea of replacing the gut flora was even taught in school.

One of the things I've read is that virus, mycotoxins, bacteria etc cannot live in an alkaline environment and our diets keep us acidic. Maybe do some reading on acid alkaline diets....

It seems that the infection has lodged itself in my back. Not too much as sit and read or things like that, but just let me try to walk and I'm weak, unbalanced, and can't stand for more than 5 minutes max.
For the first time in my life when I go to the clinics I have to use a wheel chair from the car to the office. I just can't walk that far.
I do hope this starts clearing up, being all but crippled is not fun.

Thanks everyone for the prayers, we do appreciate them.

I've been sleeping in the reclining chair because it's easier to get out of it than the bed. But not near a comfortable. Gonna try the bed tonight. Might be better.

Because of the fevers and sweating and the e-coli I've been very dehydrated too. In the hospital they gave me several IVs of water and some of potassium.

Once they'd diagnosed the e-coli they gave me every anti-biotic I think they knew about and now that I'm home I'm getting 2 GM of ceftriaxone (Roecphin) via IV (outpatient) every day for 30 days. I don't know anything about this anti-bio. Maybe those that know can tell me were it sits in the scheme of things.

Resting is about all I feel like doing. I'm still stove up enough I can't sew my quilts.
I'm just hoping that whatever it does I kills this pain in my back and legs quickly. That is my biggets problem right now.

Man, I'm so sorry to hear of your continuing trials Joe. My Dad had it tough to lick an infection a few years back also - they had him wearing a pump that constantly pushed IV anti-bios into his system for a few months! It worked though.

Hang in there!!

Feeling a tinsy itsy bitsy bit better. Less pain in the back and legs but still can't walk much or stand long.

Very fatigued.

Got a blood lab next Monday so we'll know something new then ... I hope.

Re: Prayer Request for J Miller, UPDATE

Post by J Miller »

My wife posted this almost 3 weeks ago now so I thought I'd update it a bit.

The e-coli must have really kicked my butt as I'm still suffering from back and leg weakness. I've been going to the infusion clinic for 12 days now and have 18 more to go.
Since returning home from the hospital on the 16th I've been unable to sleep in my own bed, the back pain and weakness making it all but impossible to get out of the bed. ( Our bedroom is so small there is no room on the sides of the bed to get off of it, I have to scoot to the foot of the bed to get up.)
So I've been sleeping in the lounge chair.
I'm improving a bit, enough so I could finally sleep in my bed. It felt much better.
I still can't walk more than 10 or 15 feet without something to support myself on, and have to use a wheel chair when going to clinic. But things "seem" to be improving.

I'm not quitting, the fight goes on.

It's the bills that are going to kill us.
