Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
I've never owned a Krag although I've shot a couple of them and really liked them. Seems like a really practical cast bullet gun. However, I've never civilized anything more deserving with them than steel gongs.
Jay, when my wife and I went down to Weatherford, TX, just west of Ft Worth a couple of weeks ago, I rolled one of my son's wheeled garbage cans out to the street and there were 14 frogs under the trash can, blinking their eyes in the bright sunlight.
It's tarantula mating season here and I've seen four of them crossing the street in the past two days. I think they're pretty cool.

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
OK Walt……that’s the perfect size for a couple acres……the smaller the deck, the better the cut……my 60”:decks do not give the nice even cut my neighbors $1.98 40 year old John Deere does……I think it’s a 245 or a 248 and it has the Kawasaki engine…….but I give him credit, he keeps the old Deere running and looking like new…..they were built better in those years…….i cut 2 acres for over 30 years with a 20 horse JD model 400 but after a few years I spent a lot of time turning wrenches on it along with an engine rebuild….aggravation…..that’s why I go overboard with cutting machines today and decided to open up the back 2 acres to finished yard after our last horse died…..
I never had much left over money until my early fifties or so and Trump doubled my 401 so I look at it as free money. I don’t do nothing else anymore but I have a bug up my azz that keeps me moving constantly so I put my money and energy into the yard…..winters are hard on me.
yea, I’ve weed whacked more than my share of frogs……sometimes a 6-8’ old brown water snake will come slithering out and scare the heck out of me…snapping turtles……all needed for the eco system so I don’t bother nothing anymore. Peaople say I have a “park” out back and the wildlife repays me with constant visits….3 nice bucks and 4 does we’re eating maybe 50 yards away from our picnic table.
As a man ages, priorities change…..no more hussle and running around anymore
I’ve learned a lot watching these You Tube videos……man! It was easy to get murdered back in the day. I watched one last night on the “Harpe brothers”…….they just went around killing people for pleasure and taking their S all along the mountains of Georgia up to Tennessee. The one brother used a tomahawk and would give his victims the “tomahawk special” with a whack in the head, even babies…..then the other brother would cut them open and fill their body cavities with rocks. When the law caught them they chopped their heads off and put them on a pike of some sort. This was around the 1785-1800 period or so….i believe they used a STIHL chainsaw with a 30” bar….

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
Spiders I don’t like….at all…..I kill everyone I see in the house. Those big-uns you have would leave me in terror but I heard they are friendly…….dunno about that, about as friendly as a snake crawling up in your sleeping bag to get warm. Like Billy Ray Cyrus says, “I don’t like spiders & snakes…..
Mom’s flowers really took off this year…..every 10 days I feed them a few gallons of Miracle Grow. We also have hydrangeas in white, pink and purple flowers all around the house. Yea, I’d rather stay home than being on the road with people looking to make a free dollar.

All your hard labor has paid off, Capt Six....your place is beautiful!
Regarding the tarantulas, when I was in grade school boys would sometimes come to school with a big hairy-legged one on their shoulder, sometimes walkng along on the sidewalk with a string tied to them like a leash. I've always felt a bit sorry for them because they have a mortal enemy called the tarantula hawk, a 3" long wasp with a black body and bright orange wings. The wasp's sting paralyzes the tarantula, it drags the spider off to its nest and lays eggs on it which feed on the live spider. Pretty sad end for a gentle spider.
This one was crossing the street in front of my house after a rain shower.

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
Thanks Walt..but the “hard work” belongs to Miracle Grow.
Spiders fascinate me and I know little of them. Some years back a Brown Recluse bit my wife in the thigh and she spent a week in the hospital….talk about nasty!…….the wound was a deep hole with the flesh rotting away……..she still has a nasty scar from it…….
Are you familiar with “genetic memory”? I’m positive about it……all of the black guys at work were deathly afraid of snakes, even the big tough guys, which most of them were…….a doctor from Colorado whom I hunted elk with explained it to me and it comes from millennia of people dying from certain things…like snakes in Africa. A black guy I worked with told me when he was in the army and stationed in the Deep South and while driving a Humvee noticed a huge dead snake on the side of the road and absolutely refused to drive around it! Yea, makes no sense but it may explain some of the fears all of us have today.
I have phobias such as being in a tight space and unable to get out and that explains why I’m mostly law abiding except for little stuff, like parking in a handicapped zone. I have phobias of being in large crowds with people packed somewhat tight. I told you before I now will not fly in an airplane and when I did I took Xanax and mostly slept. I dunno, maybe my ancestors were all incarcerated…. I even feel cramped up with 20 acres of open land around our house……
Now, Jay, on the other hand has no fear of anything except feral people peeking in his windows….he said he has nightmares of being in cornfields and unable to get out which explains why he detours around Cornville.

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
I hear you, Six. I am extremely claustrophobic. I once got stuck in a cave....I get uncomfortable even thinking about it. I have a sadistic mind that presents me with dreams at night which often lead me into tiny places from which I can't escape. When that happens I leap out of bed, walk really fast around the house for a while and have to get on my computer for an hour to change the subject.
I have the same problem, although not as severe with crowds. Once with our kids at Disneyland in CA on New Year's Eve we got into a crush of people that were so tightly packed around us that we were gasping for breath. We shouted and shoved our way outta there. Never again.

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
Oh man! That’s what happened to me and mom. I was 18 and she was 17 and were at a Black Sabbath concert in Philly and nearly the first ones there….they had a gate in front of the doors and if I remember correctly, the concert doors opened at 7 or 8 ….cant remember……but anyway, it was a half hour past the opening time and people were packed 100 yards behind us and everyone started pushing and me and mom were near the front……..it got so tight that what you said about breathing happened. If someone fell, if that was possible, you would be dead…….yea, traumatic memories stay in your mind like the minute it happened.
Spelunking?……forget that S….i would go in until I had to stoop and then a quick about face…….some people can squeeze through tight spots 200 yards into the earth….that S ain’t for me.
I remember watching a spy show many years ago and they hooked up this spy to a machine and ran different scenarios through his mind and when they said “claustrophobia” the needle jumped to 100%…….so, as the bad people wanted information, they put this guy in a giant metal room where they could close the walls. They made it to where he couldn’t move an inch and he cried “uncle” and ran his mouth like it was Niagara Falls….
Sleep well tonight buddy! I most likely won’t…….and Jay, close those shades unless you want feral people looking in.

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
My wife is claustrophobic. If the zipper sticks on her sweatshirt she feels trapped and panics.
I'm sure if you put me in some cave where I couldn't move I wouldn't like it, but generally I'm not twitchy about stuff.
Big water kinda freaks me out. Watching those videos of ships in bad storms way out to sea. Mostly its just awe, but I wouldn't want to be there. In a canoe or boat on a lake or pond I'm ok. I'm not really someone who panics. Closest I came was about a year ago when I thought my Glock fell out of my holster in a garage parking lot here in town. It didn't. I'd taken it out and put it on the table before I crawled under the Jeep. Then I drove to the garage to pay a bill. When I came out I looked under the Jeep again. When I drove home (about a mile) I noticed my pistol gone and forgot I'd taken it out without removing the holster.
Yeah, I don't want them imbreds peeking in on me. To them, I'm downright pretty, no telling what could happen.
Ive seen Deliverance.

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
Yea Jay…you have good genes and smarts…you must be the mayor up your way……the man with the prettiest wife and not to be messed with….
I’m sitting in the happy room and watching all of these videos from the Appalachian Story Teller……they are all true stories and I tell ya, this guy knows how to tell a story…….like if the story happened before photography he inserts old pictures so you think you are there….little shacks with rocks holding them up, dirt everywhere, kids running around half clothed…..lots of original pics of moonshine stills and guns all over…lots of ‘73 Winchesters, double barrel shotguns, single action Colts, even a Colt Lightning rifle…….
Those people are rough and some would kill ya at the drop of a hat……reminds me of some places I’ve seen upstate on one lane roads.
I’ve seen pictures of some of the torture methods in the medieval times where they would put the prisioner in a stone hole just big enough for their body and let em rot. Geeze, what mankind can do to another….just shoot em or lop their head off.

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
Haha nope. We don't have a mayor. We have a town manager and a board of selectmen. Most towns here are like that. Some of em can read and cifer and everything!
Yeah, those were some tough monkeys down there back in the day. We still got a few here, and so does my kid up in Kodiak. Matter of fact, he's one of em!

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
I have read several stories about life in the Appalachians. One incident was a guy doing a documentary about the depths of poverty in the hollers and a local shot him dead because he didn't want anyone to write about how poor those people are. Another was about a census worker who was shot and killed because he didn't belong there. My family lived in northern West Virginia for a few years when I was a kid. There were some extremely poor folks living in those mountains; no electricity, no plumbing, only a pot-bellied stove for heat and cooking, ramshackle wooden houses. I can't even imagine how they survived the winters in that area. I guess they stocked up plenty of firewood, poached a few deer and hunkered down.
Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
Woo! Been busy this week! Worked at camp Monday. Put out some cameras and moved a stand.
Yesterday was supposed to be nice, so I planed a trail bike ride. I hauled to camp and left from there, planning a ride to Greenville maybe. Holy smokes, I about froze to death! It stayed cloudy, cold, and windy. I only ended up riding 50 miles. I was so cold, I'd stop and make a tent with my sweatshirt over the motor of the bike and warm myself. I was scared it would rain, cause then I'd really be in trouble. I got back to camp a little early so I mowed the lower road before hunting season. Of course, as soon as I got back to camp the sun came out. The tractor wouldn't start, so that battery is getting swapped. I didn't have the tools I needed, so I ran back up last night and pulled it in the dark.
Headed back up this morning.

Nice photos Jay you're a lucky dog..
When two wheels was all I had Winter commuting often required a stop or two so I could warm my hands enough to pull the clutch lever.. I even tried pilots silk gloves inside my sheepskin gauntlets, still froze

A lot of guys here put heated grips on their bikes. Snowmobiles have them, as does mine, but I can't bring myself to put them on a bike.

Oh Lordy….I had some nice pics up on rebuilding the bullet backstop with the silhouettes but I took em down because of my “2 day rule”….dont ask……….well, it WAS a great debate last night…..good ole Donald slamming down the Marxist…….sure ain’t nothing fake about him….”straight up Donald”. vs. “Comrade Cameltoe”…..

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
I musta somehow missed your pics. Sorry bud. Been right out straight this week.
Soon as the store opened this morning, I got a new battery for the tractor and rolled it for camp. I had a battery for the kids 4 wheeler too. Got both of em put in and did a bunch of work down back with the tractor and saw. Trimmed and opened some twitch trails. Got a couple trees and stumps pulled out. I got some rocks out and moved too. Even fixed the paper towel rack in the camp.
As if all this ain't enough, I see it's Old Home Days in Athens! Oh my God! How did this sneak up on me? Looks like they pulled out all the stops this year. Just look at "downtown" Athens. All fancied up and all!

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
You know what I noticed about the pics of Athens? Although there’s little money in that town there’s no trash on the street. It’s not a crime to be poor but it’s a moral crime to be a pig…….driving through Philly makes you think your in India where people S on the beach.
Ha! Remember that pic I put up a while back of Athens? I see it in your pic….
Hot today…mid eighties….I stained the park benches today…..maybe cut number 1 in an hour…..

Haha its cause in Athens they can't afford to throw anything away. There IS NO trash haha!
That's why I posted that picture. It's right on the corner on the main drag "downtown". Downtown is about a hundred yards long.

I joined the WV State Police in 1977 retiring in Dec 1999 to become a FED. Some of those stories are true and there are still places where the US Marshals and FBI come to get us to go with them before they travel in or just ask us to make the arrest and bring them out.Walt wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 6:31 pm I have read several stories about life in the Appalachians. Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
Oh geeze Jayster…..I laughed enough today to last a lifetime….my bud (you know, the place where me and you met the first time.) stopped over to b.s. and hands me a very, very nice Colt 1860 Army for some unspecified work that’s not easy to get done……no need to publish here. Anyway, we were discussing people in general and how the world around here has become a serious rat race..blah…blah…blah………so…….
I was telling him about this neighbor I have and how cheap he is (I HATE cheap people, thrifty people are fine) and a few stories of his behavior…blah…blah…blah……he told me the next time this guy asks for an unpaid favor you tell him, “ , Ya know, I bet when you open your wallet and a one dollar bill is there that George Washington blinks his eye because of the light.” ….and then he continues, “tell him he’s so cheap he would steal a fly from a blind spider.”This guy next door whom I’ve done many favors for took me for a fool a couple of weeks ago…..when somebody does that to me, they burnt down the bridge that we had for a half century. No disrespect to Gamekeeper as he does NOT fit into the norm but in my experience English people think they are above others around them, especially Italians.
Oh Lordy…..this went on for 3 hours and when I went back inside my b.p. was 30 points over normal.
I just may make the phone call that will cost this neighbor of mine $40,000 to have a cistern put in with his basement water going into my pond….When I get mad, all civilized thinking comes to an end…,this F’er is gonna pay for taking me for a fool.

Six I recognise those uppity English, most of them live in the south that's one of the reasons I have moved as far north as could

Oh h3ll GK, we think more of you than most of the people in our own country.
The whole world is going in the pooper. We ole hillbillies gotta stick together.
Hey Six! Keep yourself outta trouble down there! I ain't got no bail money. I would come down and bust you out though. Our pal GK may have the cash, but the exchange rate would kill him.
Every time I think of your buddy, I remember that sweet Colt 901 he had there. Only one I'd ever seen. Primo rig! I was kinda hoping my boy would offer to buy it for me.
Maybe I wasn't as good a dad as I thought.

Every time I think of your buddy, I remember that sweet Colt 901 he had there. Only one I'd ever seen. Primo rig! I was kinda hoping my boy would offer to buy it for me.
Maybe I wasn't as good a dad as I thought.

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
My riding/shooting buddy and I went for an ATV ride today. It takes a couple of hours of driving time to get to the Jemez mountains from my house, maybe a bit less time from his house which is 30 miles away across town. We rode just a bit over 50 miles and it was so nice and cool, the sky so blue. We hit one section of rocky "road" that took us an hour to go less than 3 miles. We only saw 4 mule deer bucks and one doe, no elk. Some of that area has recently seen some heavy logging which is good because thinning the forests somewhat reduces forest fire threat. I'm pretty beat but it was a good day.

Good for you Walt! Gotta keep on dirt riding! It's mighty pretty out there. Every time I'm out there all I think is that I'd like to have my Jeep or TW with me.
I'm seriously considering selling my old Harley and getting a DRZ. I'll keep my TW of course. I'd keep the Harley too, but I don't want 3 bikes.
Most guys get a Vette, hair plugs, and a 20yo girlfriend. For us hicks, we relive our youth by riding dirtbikes. I'm not insecure.

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
Looks like Colorado back country Walt. Those pine trees are a lot older than what they look…..here, a 15 year old pine will be a foot across. Elk hunting one time in Colorado I was counting the rings on a pine tree that was firewood and the same 1 foot diameter had about 60 rings…
Don’t sell the Harley Jay…you can afford to keep it. It don’t take up much room and you know it’s history so it would not be easy to replace. You could always just take it off the road, tag and insurance free and cruise around the neighborhood once in a while like I do with Ole Yeller..
Funny thing, the 901’s never took off. We took one upstate and shot the heck out of it to the tune of 2-300 rounds…..(wasn’t my ammo, all factory fresh Remington. ) it recoiled straight back….I think I have a short video of it.
Took that 1860 Army apart and it’s fine…somebody else put it together wrong, probably Tommy….hes not very mechanical but he sure knows money……..very nice revolver with lots of color left on it.

Here’s the link to the Colt 901…..we killed off near a case of Remington Premier match ammo just blasting away and yes, I got the brass.

Haha cool! Yeah, I don't get it. Those are nice rifles.
Wow! That 1860 looks nice. The screw slots are pretty clean. Most of those I see they are all buggered and wallowed out. Frame edges are usually beat and rounded too.

Jay, come get my DR-Z. I'm getting old and I've hurt myself once too often on it. It's a 2005 and has less than 5K on it.

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
I thought you'd already sold it Walt. Looks like you've done a fair amount to it. Aftermarket tank on it.
I've always thought about an XR650L honestly (I had a 92 XR600R). I've kind of changed my mind lately, and am leaning more towards the Suzuki. It's a little lighter, and requires less modding to get where I want it. I actually think the motor would live a little longer being liquid cooled too. My old XR ran hot and required constant oil changes. And......I'm old.

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
Buy it Jay!….fly out to Walt’s, get drunk, drive it here where we can b.s and I’ll drive ya home with the bike on the trailer. Don’t laugh, I’m serious. While you’re at Walt’s you can put on the “coat”…..you know which one and then come here.
Does Walt know about the “coat”? Walt? It’s been a while since I talked about it….
I can get that 1860 Army if I want it but you know…same issue as Walt…….old.
Off the subject I am sooooo glad I have no major bills as I stopped at Pet Smart to get a new litter pan for our 20 year old cat, Spiderhead..…yes, TWENTY years old…..2 fifty pounders of litter and a new litter pan with a fancy flip in door took the better part of a hundred dollar bill.

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
OK Walt..it’s a long story but I’ll break it down…..a few years back Jay and his wife, Kristy stopped here…..Jay brought me some beer and a monogrammed hat so I figured he was a good guy……I was wondering why he was dressed in this huge buffalo coat in July that was down to his ankles. What I didn’t know was he has 17 leather lined pockets in it and when he left I was minus 17 single action Colts….every dang one of them.
So what he does is he makes these rounds and always has on his buffalo coat and from what he finally confessed to me was that he has gotten upwards of 438 Colts with this coat and has since lined it to accept Winchester carbines….and even Trapdoor Springfields….he’s a tall dude
…… so beware if he “stops by”.
Funny thing, I was reminiscing and came across this snake I shot 20 years ago with a flattop Ruger serial number 843 with hand carved ivories with an eagle on both sides….still got the head and rattles….

Walt if you type in Buffalo coat in the "search" you will be surprised how infamous that coat actually is......

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
Thanks GK…….but it wasn’t a clean shot to take the head off…..it was hanging by whatever that stuff is that keeps body parts together so the Leatherman finished the job while I stepped on his head. I was 20 miles from the nearest normal road and probably 50 miles from a normal hospital so I took no chances…….i was told it was illegal to do this but I’m not gonna walk on pins and needles around camp and anything that needs to be shot for my benefit, it gets shot.
Nice day……the road out front is closed for our townships “Founders Day” celebration and they are shuttling people on small buses to the park. Me and mom are not very social with these types (wannabe elitists) so we enjoy our own property with the dogs.

Haha yeah. I bet a "buffalo coat search" would be entertaining.
We don't have snakes like that here. I'm not sorry. Pretty cool Six!
Founders Day? Well, I don't blame you for sitting that out buddy. Besides, I'm sure it ain't nothing compared to Athens Old Home Days.

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
Oh man…you gotta stop right there old pal…”Athens old days”….for real, that’s a good thing as at least someone cares. Every time there’s something around here we see people we KNOW are not from the area as our people stupidly advertise free hot dogs, hamburgers, soda, etc….for real, the reason for the shuttle buses are because “if you want to join in the festivities you have to park at the church to get shuttled in” and I’VE SEEN IT….a junk car will pull up with 82 people in it and they rush to the concession stand to eat, drink, and use up the toilet paper in the bathrooms then steal whatever isn’t nailed down, then bolt…….theres a reason for todays hatred…..
Sooooooo, I cruise on up to the Giant supermarket 1.8 miles away and a woman, about my age, gives me a fist bump when she sees my MAGA hat………”I’m sick and tired of these illegals coming here to get what it took me and my husband 40+ years to get” ….and the cashier extended her thought by fist bumping me….i politely told them that fist bumping is Ebonics and they laughed…….yea, most people are afraid to speak their minds but im not….
So …so…….(again) this leads us to a solution to an issue……..——dead batteries…….in Ole Yeller and other things you don’t start up all the time.

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
Yup. I find when I'm out and around that most people are the same. There's no doubt it's a majority. Yet somehow, things are the way they are. That's how you know it's all corrupt and rigged. There's no way it's gonna get "fixed" playing their game.
Yeah, I had to put a battery in the 770 last week. It had an old Duracell in it that was in it when we bought it. Of course, I just put a Walmart battery in it, but I can usually keep a battery quite a while. The wife's Grand Cherokee is a 2014 and still has the original. The Odyssey in my Jeep has been in it 12 years.

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
Hey GK…..I see “the ones in charge” are fining people for fly tipping…..huh? I didn’t even know what that was. Geeze, if they enforced that rule over here, every inner city resident would owe 471 trillion dollars.
You wanna hear something funny?…well, your gonna hear it anyway, unless you choose not to read it which by the law of gratitude makes you guilty of eliteness. There’s this tree in Africa that’s one of the most oldest in the world…..some 4,000+ years and locals decided to make a tavern inside of it…it died,,,,…..

You keep having to wonder how long it's gonna go on. We must be close to bottomed out now. I know I am.
Anyway, it's Sunday. Last one. My buddy ain't going in and only one guy came in on days. Sounds like a recipe for a long night.
When I woke up I heard my buddy start his Harley and go for a ride. Nice day for it.
This working 3 days a week is killing me. I don't know how I'm gonna make it another 3 years.

Easy…get a job at the bus station to fill in your unused luxury time.
Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
No, no! I must not have been clear. Work is cutting into my luxury time too much now!
Oh.....and we don't have a bus station. I think the closest one is 50 miles away.
I guess maybe hitch a ride on an Amish wagon. Closest thing we got.

Hey Six, part of my job before I retired was reporting fly tipping to get it removed by city council. Heavy fines for anyone caught dumping rubbish etc in the countryside. One day I saw something in a layby so stopped to investigate, it turned out to be bondage equipment the whole works...

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
Fly tipping? WTH is that? I've heard of cow tipping, but flies are pretty close to the ground already. How much fun can that be? Don't they take off before they tip?
Myst be some city folk thing, I don't know?

Well there! I learnt something today.
Around here, it's called "Showing off". It implies you have enough money thay you can afford to throw stuff away. It's usually a rare occurrence, but the ones thay do it like to make sure people see them.

It's a big problem over here and costs a lot of taxpayers money to remove and clean up. The dumbest fly tippers often leave their names and address amongst the rubbish
