Interesting listening - thanks for the link, Doc
As a guy with significant native american ancestry, i take a dim view of the Indian Wars --- but it was a long long time ago . Ultimately, we lost but the battle of Little Big Horn was a major win
We can only speculate, but i wonder how many more years the Indian Wars would have kept on if the tribes could all unify --- but some of the tribes were attempting to mobilize the US Army against their competitors , thinking it would benefit them

I too hadn't heard that narrative before, a very detailed account of the goings-on.

Yeah if they’d have had the organization they might have compensated for no manufacturing (of guns etc).Streetstar wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 6:42 pm Interesting listening - thanks for the link, Doc

I used to wonder how they’d have done if they had Mini-14’s.

I am amazed at Doc…..in addition to his demanding job which requires continual education, learning curves and living a somewhat hillbilly lifestyle which is time consuming.
Im beginning to think Doc sleeps 3-4 hours a day and has 3 iPads in front of him, constantly scanning between them while absorbing the content.
When Doc writes an answer, it’s not a 2 line/15 word answer……always written in detail 6 paragraphs long, usually with words that fly over my head.
It’s either that or he has 3 brains……well done Doc.

That was a very detailed report, and interesting. I was hoping it might somehow be from some survivor of Custer's platoon that had survived, and I'd never heard of before now. But still being from Reno's unit it gives some insight into Reno, and his lack of command under pressure.

Mini 14's may have held off the inevitable for a little while -- but combination of the Army and the flood of settlers heading west was more than a divided force that also fought themselves could bear -- most nations were formed through conquest and dominationAJMD429 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 7:55 pmI used to wonder how they’d have done if they had Mini-14’s.Streetstar wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 6:42 pm Interesting listening - thanks for the link, Doc

I am Choctaw myself - one of the 5 "civilized" tribes -- we signed a treaty with the US allowing citizenship in the 1830's as well as granting permission to own slaves -- even so, the tribe was forced west into Indian territory 40 years later.
