A couple to choose from

Post by wvfarrier »

I took a chance last year and let both these guys walk and they both almost doubled their mass this year. To.me, both are shooters

Can't eat antlers :D
Either are shooters IF they meet the criteria of all these professional deer hunters, age being the biggest. However anytime I happen to shoot a big ol rutted up buck he gets ground into sausage. I've always been if it's enough antler to make you happy then shoot it.
I'd rather shoot a nice fat doe or her kids ( we can shoot 2 at a time here) plus the little ones are easier to drag!

Exactly right. I've passed up a lot of rutty bucks, they don't even taste good. Dittos on taking the does. I passed up some PG ones to give them a chance, but if i'm short on meat, in the skiff they go. :)

That's very cool. I never bow hunted, but I have some that I enjoy toying with. It's getting harder for me to draw the hunting bows now, and I am probably done with meat hunting.

What bows do you hunt with, and do you stalk or still hunt?

I an hunting this year with a hickory/yew self-bow.
Bamboo shafts with 165 grain points I made from 1/16" 5160. Pine and deer sinew binding.

Nice bow. Is that a snakeskin backing? Your whole kit looks seriously first class, you can feed a lot of people with that rig. Kudos

This one has faux copperhead skins on it. I could find any to kill before I finished it so bought some fake ones. I will remove them at some point and add some Timber Rattler skins I recently tanned
