Years ago, during my first year as a LEO I got called to a residence where an elderly couple said their home had been broken into and their dog was missing. I get on scene and they tell me that they did not enter the home yet. I go in and find their dog (huge mastiff) laying against a closet door. I hear a weak voice saying "help". The owners come in and get the dog and I find the burglar. They guy said the dog chased him into the closet and he had been in there for 2 or 3 days.....he smelled like it. He said the dog laid against the door and he couldnt budge it. The owners informed me that they had been out of town and the dog had an auto waterer and feeder. It was also "litter" trained like a cat
Just got a text from a friend, who bought the house next to me to fix up and flip. Seems yesterday the former owners son broke a window to get in and started to bring in his belongings! This kid has been a loser, suspected meth head, drunk, beat up his mother. My friend called the police, couple officers took a statement, evidence.
Funny thing is my dogs were going off yesterday, Claro doesn't bark unless something is wrong, not sure if it was the break-in or the police they were barking at.
House across the street from me posted a notice of demolition a few weeks ago. It’s been vacant for almost two years while the estate was settled and the inevitable delays for permits occurred.
During the last two years neighbors have had to chase off several attempts to occupy the house. Since the notice, no less than 4 attempts have been made. I swear these folks either check county records or cruise around looking for houses like this.
Cops won’t even take a complaint against such attempts. But are quick to remind property owners that they can’t physically stop the intruders if the house is unoccupied.
Fortunately, old, fat, white guys wearing an NRA T shirt and a veterans ball cap seem to have a significant impact on their housing choices.
