70s Series 1911 I couldn't pass up

Post by 2ndovc »

I ran across the listing for this 9mm 70s Series and couldn't not buy it.

The pistol has been to Germany, where it was worked over by a gunsmith that knew what he was doing and turned it into a very nice target pistol. Slide to frame fit is tight and the trigger can't be more than 3.5#+-.
Hoping to get out tomorrow to run a few rounds through it.
I tried to get a picture of the German proof marks, but they a a little difficult to see. The import mark is tiny and hard to find.

Any series 70 Colt is a great purchase, but the added Germany provenance is just a little bit neater!

Thanks guys. I've always found Us commercial arms with foreign proof marks really interesting. Really wish i knew the whole story that goes with this one.

Thanks Andy!

Just back from my dad's place. He wanted to see it in person, then offered to buy for more than I paid for it.
I told him I would trade it for one of his Russian Contract 1911s but he passed. We were just goofing around, but being a long time
1911 collector, he was quite impressed. :D

I think I would prefer yours over the Russian variety ol' friend! That being said, I'll keep my Kimber 1911 in 10mm. Colonel Cooper would have approved of it, I am sure. But yours is really, really neat, I have to say.

Not to worry. The Old Man isn't about to give up one of his $20k Colts for a 9mm. No matter how interesting.

I've always been a big fan of the 10mm. One of my favorites these days is a Blackhawk .40/10mm convertible.

They are quite rare and the Old Dog has three of them. Now, he has had them for thirty years but he is quite knowledgeable about WWI, the Russian Revolution and the atrocities that they have done throughout eastern Europe. Then and now.
He bought the 1911s around the same time I bought my Russian Contract Model 95s.

Well "Ol' Friend" I could not own such a firearm as you know I am Ukrainian. Before the war broke out, I purchased some really remarkable Soviet made watches. Long story short, Russia absorbed the German watch making industry and made some world class watches back in the day, and mine are refurbished, and tuned by a master watch maker, but obviously, I cannot wear them in any way anymore. I am unsure what to even do with them. Putin has destroyed everything. -Tutt

I completely agree, Puitn is a monster and I hope every day he has an "accident" in the old Soviet style.

I've sold off most of my Russian stuff except an SVT 40 and the Winchester. The 1895 probably spent more time in Spain than it did in Russia. There's a Spanish Loyalist cartouche on the stock. Similar reason as my dad has about the Colts, I have about the 95. I paid $700 for it 30 years ago or more. Last one I saw in similar condition w/o the Spanish history SOLD for $8000! That stuff will keep going up and those Colts will be mine someday.
