Haha! Me? Big words?
At the factory, they sometimes put dielectric grease on some connectors (it's a light grease that conducts electricity and looks like Vaseline). Over time it can dissipate, or was never put on. Then, moisture, dirt, or corrosion can interrupt or add resistance to the connection. It probably isn't the issue in your case, as your Jeep has had an easy life.
I haven't had an issue either, but I watch for it. My old Dodge truck that I had for 22 years used to make a fuss on a charging relay once in a while. It only had 52k and still had the original wiper blades.
Anyway, it's most likely bad. I would try and get a factory part if you can. A lot of the parts store stuff is garbage.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the old guys with cool stuff that just sits. Another thing you see up here is something real desirable sitting on the front lawn of some dump of a house. It'll be rough but maybe able to be saved. They put it where everyone can see and it looks like it's for sale. They want people to stop so they can say "I'll NEVER sell that. I'm going to restore it." Then they'll tell you how much it's worth and how rare it is. They'll leave it there till it rots into the ground. Very common here.

I once found an old series one Land Rover abandoned and rotting in a orchard it only had a few thousand miles on the clock and the owner said everyone who sees it wants to buy it but he wouldn't sell. I told a friend who must have powers of persuasion and he actually bought it, the sad thing was he couldn't finish restoring it and offered it to me when I had nowhere to keep it..

This is the series two abandoned where I used to live ...my landlord wouldn't sell it either

Jay, I finally threw off the procrastination, pried the BMW out of its warm corner of the garage and went for a ride. It was only about 125 miles but the morning was perfect, cool and clear with very little traffic on the road. I headed south through the mountains and past the ancient little Mexican villages, then out into the flat ranchlands. Due to this area being in our monsoon season, the roadsides were green and lush. The view in the picture below is toward the Sandia Mountains, about 40 miles away (the farther ones in the background) the base of which is where I live.

Today I shifted gears and took the Jeep for a little ride. No wheeling, just some back dirt roads up through West Athens and South Solon.
I've really been itching lately for an XR650L or a DRZ400S. I KNOW I don't need 3 bikes, but I have a solid use for all 3.

Old Rovers are just cool. I don't know as they were any better than a Jeep, but they are really neat. I just always liked the old ones.

I envy you two wheelers, my bike days like my horse riding are just happy memories now.

BTW the first Land Rover was built on a Jeep chassis and had a central steering wheel they were intended for farmers and were capable of being used as light tractors, steel was hard to come by for domestic vehicles so aluminum was used for the bodywork. As much as I loved my Land Rovers I have always wanted a Willys Jeep.

I've never driven a series 1 Rover, but would jump at the chance.
I have however driven, and owned, a Willys. They are just awesome. There's just something about them.
As long as you aren't in a hurry.

Riding my bike out of town last night, I passes a military Willys MB on Madison Avenue. I had to smile at how small it looked on the road these days. And, it had to be almost wide open.

When I was a kid back in the sixties, military Jeeps could be had on the cheap….my uncle had one and put a plow on it……there’s a few around here but rarely seen…..there is a guy behind the lawn mower junkyard that has a nice condition Jeep from the Korean War but I’ve never seen it on the road…

One track mind since 1970….Winchesters & Colts…..nothing else mattered. If I see one for sale that’s nice and drivable, I’m gonna buy it….

97 and I’m headed back out on the Kubota. Those big boomers we had last week or so grew the grass 8” or more but the ground is still all cracked up like a dry lake bed….

My brother had an old flat fender Jeep; it was an early 50s CJ-2A, a civilian model if I remember correctly. It was around for decades and if I'd known he wanted to get rid of it, I would have taken it off his hands. But without telling me, he sold it for beans just to get rid of it. What a pity.

During Korea they still used MBs and GPWs. There were tons left from the war. I call Korea the "surplus war", cause that's what we fought it with. Even the K-rations.
They went to the M38 soon after. The M38 was the equivalent of the CJ3A. Quickest way to tell is it doesn't have a split windshield. It was a little more beefed up over the MB, but still used a flat head. They are very rare, as few were made before the adoption of the M38A1.
The designation makes it sound like a small change, but it wasnt. The M38A1 was the military version of the CJ5 from 1955. It had the round fenders, little larger size, heavier construction, and the F-head Hurricane engine. As far as I know, this was the last incarnation of the Jeep in military use.
The AM General M151 abomination does not count. That "thing" is not recognized by me, and calling one a "Jeep" will bring a swift and certain violent reaction from me.

Wow! I take that back……on buying a military Jeep. 5 G’s will get you a beat up non running project vehicle…..10 will get you something that runs but has issues……seems like 15-20 will get you a decent restored one……..on up to 53 for one with 9,000 miles on it.

I don’t get it…my buddy bought this deuce and a half for around $7500, put 4 into it for a super paint job and all the tools hanging on the side along with the proper numbers and sold it (what he tells me)…for 18. Run flat tires with 11K on the odometer with an Allison automatic trans. Diesel with a turbo.

Oh! That guy who is wearing your shirt and belt buckle? I was driving over to Targetmaster and I used the back roads where people throw their old appliances out. This guy had a rucksack full of old toasters and some still had bread in them…..so I picked him up and gave him a ride…nice guy….but he collects weird stuff..says he has a garage full of non working toasters. He said he likes the Pennsylvania toasters because they were $20 new, not like the .99 ones where he comes from.

Speaking of toasters, if you bought one in the 50’s, it was still going strong in the 70’s……..junk today lasts about 5 years, if dat. I heard Rossi is making toasters….guaranteed to toast 8 slices of bread.

We just bought a newfangled top-of-the-line toaster………think it was $39….

Still got the old one outside. It worked great but the only way to clean them proper is take them outside and give them a minute of 90 pounds of air pressure……stopped working after that.

Little cooler today at 92……we are going to get storms sometime tonight……

Haha it's a Harley Davidson belt buckle from 2008.
It's an oval shape and comfortable. I alternate sometimes between it and Colt and Winchester buckles. I have a pile of old buckles. Liked em ever since I was a kid. It was the biggest reason to go to the fair when it hit town. Used to cruise all the biker type leather and buckle vendors.

On a side note....
I'm pretty sure we have the longest continuois running agricultural fair in the US. Been going for over 200 years.

Yup. Toasters have probably burned down more houses than any other appliance. With dryers a close second.

It's 84 here. That's stupid hot. We drove to Bangor today and hit the Red Wing store for my annual pair of boots. I'm stacking them babies up before I retire. I got 3 more pair coming. I also got another Amish gun belt. Couple inches longer than my other one for IWB holsters.
We hit Geagans pub and I got some fire wings and a cold brew. Then we went to Sam's. After we got everything that my parents and the kids wanted, there wasn't any room for the stuff we wanted.

Buffalo wings were invented by a Sicilian in Buffalo. 110° here but it is a dry heat.

Hemp hats seem to resist sweat. This after a week at 110°in golf.

Went outside to cut the back 2 ….started up the semi-mighty Kubota and said F.I……the humidity is so bad I had a hard time breathing.

Those Redwings are the best…..yes, keep stacking them up…..it would take me at LEAST 3 years to wear out a pair and I don’t sit back…they get used….Still have 3 pairs two of which are the tall heeled 10” loggers….the AMERICAN made ones, not the Chinese Redwings….i had them too and there’s a world of difference.

Yea Jay……..the biggest problem with dryers is that people don’t clean them. I pop off the back twice a year and vacuum and clean the exhaust pipe…..I’m lucky as the dryer sits in the basement with a 6’ flexible pipe that goes directly outside……many people have a dryer with a 20’ pipe that runs through their house before it goes outside….thats a burn down…..lint and air has nowhere to go and backs up the heat..my son had that in his old house…….he was telling me it takes 2 hours to dry a load so I toad him to check da back and the exhaust pipe….clogged……he had to make some sort of a contraption to push it all outside and said he had a couple of wheelbarrows worth of lint.

Most people don’t know that, especially college educated people…..our dryer, a Maytag is around 20-25 years old but the heavy stuff we wash goes on the clothesline……that’s another thing, people don’t know what a clothesline is, especially college educated people.

Fred…..I’m ahead of you…..saw that last year….some sort of petrified turd from a Viking……that is funny. Did you know they find turds all the time in high elevation mountains, especially the Andes……today they found some frozen dead guy who died in an avalanche 20 years ago. Along with his papers, clothes, two $20 bills, he had a knapsack full of turds from previous mountain climbers…..

I've tried those loggers a couple times but I can't wear them. The high heel bothers my foot right where it slants down. I can't remember the model I wear, but they are insulated, with the regular heel height. They AIN'T CHEAP! Glad I ain't paying for the full boat.
I keep 2 pair in service at a time. When I start a new pair for work, motorcycle riding, and casual wear, I put the old pair into "woods service". They see hard use in the wet and mud while cutting wood or working at camp or whatever.
Just for reference, my "good pair" have been in use for a good 7 years. My old pair since about 2012. Still no holes, still don't leak. The inside is broken down a good bit, and the soles are worn, but they aren't cracked.
Unless something really big changes, I will only wear Red Wings. I can wear them all day every day and they are comfortable and tough. By the time I retire, I should have more than enough for the rest of my life.

Jay, you know what happens? Guys stock up on stuff before they retire. Take boots for example….like you, all I’ve ever worn are Redwings and I still wear them during the rare occasion where the temps and what I’m doing requires a solid boot…….those,ones I took a picture of…about 10 years old…wore them maybe 10 times……..I have an identical pair that I’ve used maybe 30 times……..I have a beater pair that I started using 5 years before I retired and those are the ones I’ll use regularly. Soooooo comfortable……

I’ve got $400 Danners for the snow etc….but most of the time anymore I just slip on a pair of cheap zip up military boots…or sneakers….

You know the old saying…….$1,000 worth of boots, hat and belt buckles and not a nickels worth of clothing in between…….holds true for rednecks like us……

Ya know Fred….the same thing happened to me…as to foot growth……..I don’t think our feet grow longer but get fatter and wider and the next size up fits better. I used to be an 8 when I was a teenager , then a 8.5 in my twenties, and I now wear a 9.

You can always put a shoe stretcher in them…..I have one, it’s a wood thingy in two pieces then you tighten the screw. …….or, in your case, you can just put the front of the boot on a drill press and drill holes where your toes come out….

Jdad……I guess so…he said he could be rolling along at 60-70 and if someone passes him fast he can punch it and wing by them in a few seconds. …yes, it’s a costly machine but he’ll make money on it when it comes time to sell it. He did the Rubicon Trail in it a few months ago…don’t know if your familiar with that trail but it takes you two days to travel 10 miles…..like Jay, my boy is a Jeep fanatic….hes running 35’s on it now but soon they will be 37’s, …that 392 is the Hemi engine.

He does everything to the extreme. Even his dirt bike comes from Europe……….some special thing that only 500 were made.

I taught him well…….i had to have guns that only a few were made…….

200 degrees? That ain’t nuttin’. Going into a trailer while loading it really is around 115. Backing out onto the loading dock feels like an ice cube at 95……..right now, it’s 90 something outside but in here it’s down to 72…….mom wants to head down to Brandywine Hardware I’ll walk in with the intention of buying some spray paint but will most likely come out with a shopping cart filled with useless junk. They are having a sale on Rossi’s disguised as rebar.

Oh dang……I thought you did that…….common sense would tell you that Rossi can’t make guns so how in the heck can they make helicopters? Maybe it’s a family member with more smarts.

Double dang…that’s a nice one Fred but no where near as big as shaq O’neils……..he has a meat grinder installed in his toilet because no known sewer pipe can handle his whoppers…….we had a guy at work who was a real deal 500 pounds and a couple of times a year we would have “Pizza Day” where management would bring in 30 pizzas or so…….big ole Gil would grab a whole pizza and roll it up and eat it like a hoagie…..

Gil had his own special toilet……the plant mechanics cut a 55 gallon drum in half and installed a custom toilet seat on it. There was a bag in it and when Gil was done dropping off his whopper he would tie a knot on the bag and a forklift would come and put one fork through the knot to lift it up and into the dumpster.

That is for real on the pizza.

Went out this morning and washed both bikes. I was soaked with sweat at 10am.

It’s the humidity…we had 97 yesterday with near the same humidity…….I cannot use very much salt because of my Meniers but yesterday I had some things to do, did them and came in the house because I was shaking like a leaf in a 100 mph windstorm…..I chugged down 2 cups of pickle juice…….mom likes pickles and keeps one of those big gallon glass jars in the fridge….

Then we had a storm with extremely high winds and it blew the 10’ canopy with its metal framework out in the yard…..the metal was crumpled up and completely split in some places…..and today, after about 50 1/8” self tappers, metal rods inside the broken pieces and a half roll of Gorilla Glue duct tape that baby looks like new! I was laughing to myself so hard I wet myself…….mom says, “what the heck are you doing, a hundred dollar Chinese piece of junk and you have a roll of Ben’s in your pocket……I said, “that’s why I have a roll of Ben’s”.

I’m just going to get this year out of it. I’m seriously thinking about making one out of new conduit or possibly schedule 40 PVC. The cheap metal they use bends with unfixable crinks. If you straighten it out it breaks…….granted, the instructions says “only temporary use and not to be left out”. I could not find a commercial one of that size which lead me to think about building my own.

Maybe stacking some cinder blocks about 7’ high for the four corners and stealing one of those big steel plates you see on the road that cover big holes…..or a couple of hoods from ‘57 chevys. The blue tarps look too hillbilly.
